Four Days Before Christmas
New York CityI watch as my dad puts the angel on top of the tree as my brother holds the ladder in place so that he doesn't fall. I stand back to make sure that it's not lopsided on the tip, I give him a thumbs up and pull my phone out to take a photo. The angel barely fitting as it's touching the tip of the ceiling.
"Not lopsided but almost," my dad chuckles while he looks back at it.
"It looks fine, honey!" my mom says as she walks into the room holding two mugs full of hot chocolate, handing one to my father. "I have to agree with mom," I say as I look at the tree one last time before taking a seat on the couch. I prop my feet up on the edge of the coffee table, looking around the room. "We can't just stop at the tree," Tate groans and I stand from the couch, "I wasn't stopping I was admiring!" I laugh.
I walk over to the box of decorations that were sprawled out near the tree. I walk over grabbing a long piece of garland both beaded and mixed pieces for the mantel of the fireplace, as well as the stockings. I walk over starting to decorate it, putting the stocking holders that are in the shapes of sleighs. My phone buzzes from my back pocket as I'm finishing hanging Ryan's stocking last, I pull my phone out and smile.
I sigh softly, locking my phone and helping Tate put up decorations in the hallway. "Look at you two, doing incredible!" My father says with a chuckle. Just as we're hanging one of the last strands of lights, the doorbell rings and the four of us looking around to each other confused. "I'll get it I guess," I say as I walk towards the door.
I slowly open the door and I swear that my heart skips a beat.
I'm instantly met with ocean blue eyes, I can't help but smile as his tanned arms wrap around my waist. I wrap my arms around his neck with a smile, "oh my god! hi," I say excitedly, blushing.
"Hi darlin'!" he says showing off his breathtaking smile.
It's been months since we've seen each other, after my graduation we talked. We talked for hours, that turned into days which ultimately turned into months. We had worked everything out and had been texting back and forth daily.
"I missed you," he says as he keeps me wrapped in his arms, kissing my head softly and I can't help but smile. "I missed you but I can't believe you're here! It's almost Christmas, I thought you we're supposed to be with you're family!" I ask, looking up at him as he enters the house.
"I was but my flight got cancelled due to a supposed snow storm in Dublin," he says with a sarcastic eye roll. He looks around and says hello to my parents and Tate, "where's the little one?" He says with a soft laugh. "He's up in his room asleep," my mom says with a warm smile, they talk for awhile as I take a seat next to Tate on the couch. I lean my head against the back of the couch yawning and keeping my eyes on Niall's as he talks to my parents.
