Broken Miracles: Histories #12
loneliness
came easy
for me,back when
I was a kid.- leper leper
leper -people saw
the wheelchair,but not me –
at Cape Christopher Harvest Chapel
they'd always
lay hands on me
asking Godto heal me,
all the way
so I could walk.so God's plan might make
Senseto them.
(it never even
occurred to meI didn't have
to feel guiltyfor being a freak –
for being
me.)
until one day,
tired of their torrents –
exhausted by their exhortations,My mother
EXPLODED"Why can't you love him
for who he is?"(I couldn't love
Mum
more than I didin that one moment -
it meant
everythingto me)
(still does.)
Maybe I only realized
the truth for a brief
flicker of a moment:But I'd finally found friends
who didjust that.
The Bomb Promthe last adventure
Ava, Pea, & I had
before high school graduationwas the Bomb Prom.
(After the previous year,
we'd all made separate –& then mutual decisions
not to attend regular prom
Senior year.Ava could clearly see Pea
was never gonna
agree to go again –to be mobbed by
the Neanderthals
we went to school with...(though Pea
would probably
say that wastoo harsh on
the historical
Neanderthals!)& I was certainly in
no mood to repeat my
kool aid spilling
heartbreak trick)And so –
we got together
& chose to dosomething different -
something special -something weird -
The Bomb Prom.
We'd all dress up
in cosplay –
hang out at Ava's –& watch
TAB Season 4's Finaletogether.
(for nerds –
a gathering of
three people
might as wellbe a prom...)
—-
I was the first to arrive
at the threshold of her house
(again)Avalon Gates
with pale skin -
forgetting the freckles -(though, if I'm being totally honest,
they were impossible to forget)
