HARRY EDWARD STYLESI was scared, nervous as well. I'd ruined this all once before, and I still have those same worries and insecurities that I did back then, so once more - what's stopping me from ending it all again?
Well I guess I'm stopping myself in the end.
And I can't this time. I have to make things work, I don't want to let go of this feeling that Amelia makes me feel. Each day I got a new update and photo of her - it always brought a smile to my face and it was the only thing that brightened my day. When they were late, I couldn't stop checking my phone and I couldn't stop myself from worrying about her and what was going on.
I need to stop being so scared and letting my insecurities come between this, because if I continue to allow it to control my life - I'll lose Amelia, and as cheesy and cliche it may be, I truly believe she's 'the one'.
Her hair blows through the cold wind, I don't know why she insisted on having the windows down in December but I just tug my coat onto me more and keep my eyes on the road and her. She bops her head to music I don't even know while paying no attention to me as I drive her car to a diner.
Amelia smiles when we pull in, already liking the 24-hour diner I've chosen for us. Plus, I know the owners so it's even better. I get out of the car first, trying to make my way to her door before she can open it so I can be a gentleman, but she's already out and giving me a confused look as I make my way there.
"Tried to be a gentleman." I explain, an awkward laugh escaping my lips as she smiles at the gesture.
"You know, I was thinking in the car.." She doesn't move towards the diner, instead leaning against it and crossing her arms while she looks at me.
I cock my eyebrow, "Oh, yeah? About what?"
"If we're going to fix this," she gestured between the two of us, "we should start over. Reintroduce ourselves a bit. Obviously we can't sit and repeat everything we've already learned, but you can humor me a bit, yeah?"
I nod, extending my hand to her with a playful bow. "Hello there gorgeous, my name is Harry. And yours?"
She shakes my hand with a giggle before standing up straight and acting proper. "Hello Harry, my names Amelia. You can call me Cherry, if you please."
I didn't let go of her hand, instead pulling her a bit closer as I walked towards the diner. We couldn't stand there all day, and I was hungry.
"Cherry.. I like it." I hummed, "Where'd you get a nickname like that?"
"From high school. Both of my ex-boyfriends liked it very much." Amelia replied as I opened the door to the diner, leading her inside.
"Did they now?"
"One even wrote a song about it. Crazy."
"Crazy, indeed." I chuckled before turning his attention to the familiar hostess who had watched the interaction with a mix of adoration and confusion.
I never brought girls here, no matter who I was seen with at the time in the media - they never came to Ruby's.
I smiled innocently at the middle-aged woman, "Hi there, Rubs. Can I have a table for two, please?"
"Hm." The woman tutted, "I don't get a visit for over a year, and that's how you greet me. 'Hi there'?"
Sounds familiar - I guess I have a thing for not talking to people for a year at a time. Sorry 'bout that.
"M'sorry, Rubs. How have you been?"
"Been doing just awful without my little Hazza visiting me. Missed ma pop star." Her southern accent that was still faintly there shined through as she led us to a booth near the front windows.
"I've been busy, didn't have time.. I would've visited if I could. Can't stay away from this place or from you for long."
She sat us down at a booth with a roll of her eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Well you better let those bandmates of yours know that all of y'all owe me a visit. Even you."
"Well, what do you call this?" I retorted, gesturing between us to show that I'm here and I'm visiting.
"I call this you tryin' to impress a beautiful young lady with your old Rubs 'ere." She turned her attention to Amelia who wore an amused expression from the interaction. "Who are you, and what are ya doin' with this idiot?"
"My names Amelia, it's nice to meet you. I'm guessing your names Ruby?"
Ruby gasped, "So ya haven't even spoken of me, Hazza! What is wrong with ya? Ya had time with this gal for the last year, but not me? Can't even mention me?" She feigned a hurt expression, "I am hurt!"
"Actually," Amelia cut in, "he didn't even have time for me this past year."
"I did not come here to get teased and yelled at, thank you very much." I concluded in an attempt to not have to hear this conversation any further.
"I'll let it go for now, but come 'ere again, alone, and then I'll grill ya." Ruby winked at me to let me know everything she had said earlier was just to mess with me. "Now, what do ya two dolls want?"
"Two strawberry milkshakes." Amelia answered, making eye contact with me to make sure it was alright.
"And large fries." I added, really needing to fuel my hunger right now. Ruby disappeared with a smile, though I could feel her eyes on us much more after that.
Amelia nodded her head towards Ruby, "So, how do you know her?"
"The boys and I went here once when we first started - she was a bit younger then, Louis hit on her a couple time I think. After that, it just became a tradition to come here and talk to us."
"And Hazza?" Amelia mused.
"That's a conversation for another day."
