Meet

I'm currently doing my usual core routine, sweating and panting while doing some reps of it when a loud noise from my phone echoed to the four-corner sides of the room. It didn’t stop ringing so I slowly put down the plate that I used while doing sit ups.

I slightly bowed to others and gave them an apologetic look. It was loud and it somehow distracts them.

Deep inside me, naiinis ako kasi bakit may tumatawag? I am supposed to be in a vacation as a reward for successfully ending a terror attack happened recently in the country. Kaya hindi ko alam kung tungkol ba sa trabaho ang tawag o galing sa aking pamilya.

I suddenly felt unconscious for a second when I realized who’s calling. Hurriedly, I pick the phone as fast as I could and answered it.

“Good day, Lieutenant Montreal. This is General del Rosario, can I speak with you in a minute?” Tanong ni General sa akin. Somehow I cannot talk immediately, probably in shock.

“Good morning, General. Lieutenant Montreal speaking.” I responded.

“First of all, I want to apologize for contacting you knowing that you’re in a vacation. This order is urgent. A client personally contacted me about this and I cannot do this without you dahil ikaw naman ang pakay nito.” Paliwanag niya sa akin.

Huminga ako nang malalim. This is actually just the first week of my supposed months vacation pero agad akong nakatanggap ng tawag.

“Give me the details, General.”

He chuckled. “The ever workaholic, obedient, and dedicated Montreal. Alam ko naman na wala kang trabaho na aayawan.” Sabi niya pa.

Unknowingly, I glared. Don’t get me wrong, I truly love my job. Pero ngayon, sadyang nanghihinayang lang ako sa dapat na maging pahinga ko.

“As you know, Philippine Army offers protection to those who needs it, right?” Tumango naman ako kahit hindi niya ako nakikita. “You’ve worked with other armies before with the same order as this, Montreal. I expect this won’t be new to you?”

“Opo, General. This is not new to me. Can you please continue with the details?”

“Well, of course. Mr. Vergeire’s secretary personally came into my office and asked for your expertise, Montreal. This Wednesday will be the arrival of Mr. Vergeire from U.S at exactly one o’clock in the afternoon. I know that you know very well what to do with your men, Montreal. You’ll lead this operation. I know you won’t disappoint, Montreal.”

“Sir, yes Sir!”

“Alright, we’ll see this Wednesday. Goodbye!”

General ended the phonecall. I don’t know who this Mr. Vergeire is.
Once again, I sighed because of it. It is Sunday today tapos ngayong miyerkules agad ako magtatrabaho ulit. So much for wanting a good vacation, huh?

I automatically went home after the call at hindi ko na tinapos ang oras ko sa gym.

My mom was shocked when I told her that I’m flying back to Luzon. Nanghihinayang kasi hindi ko pa raw nasulit ang vacation and here it is, another task given to me.
