Tony yawns and walks into the comual floor kitchen. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and he had just woken up. He looks around confused. "Where's Weasel?" Steve frowns a bit. "She's locked herself in her room." Tony raises an eyebrow. "Why?" He looks to Clint, their local deaf translator. He puts his hands up in defence. "Don't look at me. I tried, but you can't exactly use ASL through a closed door."

Tony grumbles and flops on the couch with his coffee. "Any luck finding out who she is?" Natasha asks as she sips her hot tea. Tony's eyebrows crease. "No. I've looked into missing persons reports, but there isn't anything." Steve thinks for a moment. "Didn't she say she was on the run since she was 12?" Tony's mouth gapes. "She did." He disregards his coffee and jumps to his feet. "Guess he got an idea."

Spencer was having a shitty day. Today was the anniversary. 12 years ago her mother died. 12 years ago her life came to a halt and everything changed. 12 years of being so alone.

She sniffles and rubs her mother's necklace between her fingers. She hasn't taken it off since the day her mother gave it to her. She smiles at the memory.

"Mommy, why are you sad?" Little Spencer grabs her crying mother's hand. Phoebe smiles at her daughter and wipes her tears away. She hides the bills from her daughter's sight. "Nothing baby. Mommy is just having a hard day." Phoebe stares at her daughter. She got her eyes, but after that she took after her father. Spencer was brilliant beyond Phoebe's years.

Phoebe wasn't sure if she could raise her daughter on her own, but she knew she'd have to fight for her. "Here." She unclips her necklace and puts it around Spencer's neck. The little Spencer holds the heart charm like it was given to her by god himself. "I want you to remember something Spence." Spencer nods, determined. "Life is tough," She boops Spencer on the nose. "But so are you."

Spencer giggles at her mother and gives her a hug. "I'll remember mommy."

Spencer wipes a tear away. She fought hard. Her life was so hard and she fought. For her mother. She wasn't going to let her memory die in vain.

Taking a deep breath, Spencer stands and unlocks her bedroom door. She wasn't going to cry in her room all day. She had to be strong.

"Well look who decided to join us!" Clint announces as Spencer walks into the living room. She ignores him for obvious reasons and proceeds to get a bowl of cereal. Sam raises an eyebrow. "She looks... terrible." And that she did. Spencer had dark circles under her eyes and they were red and puffy. She'd been crying.

"Be nice." Steve scolds. Sam puts his hands up. "What? It's not like she can hear me." An eraser finds itself between Sam's eyes. Sam groans and rubs her forehead. "Not cool Barton." Clint smirks and returns to his book.

Peter was swinging through the city when his phone dinged. He lands on the edge of a building and unlocks his phone.

???:
How does one survive getting bit by a radioactive spider?

His eyes widen and he looks at his surroundings hoping his hacker is near by.

Peter:
Who knows.
Why are you still talking to me?

???:
I'm bored.
Besides, wouldn't you like a little help every now and again?

Peter:
Help?
What kind of help?

???:
Like me telling you there is a robbery three blocks west.

Peter's ears pick up on siren's off to his right. He hides his phone and swings over to the comotion. There indeed was a bank robbery. Whoever was committing the crime were amateurs and didn't know what they were doing so Peter quickly put a stop to them. He pulls his phone out.

Peter:
So what do I call you?

???:
I usually go by Mute, but I think you can keep a secret
My name is Spencer

Peter:
Well thank you Spencer

Spencer:
No problem Spidey.
:)

Peter smirks at his phone. His hacker trusted him enough with their name.

Three days had passed Spencer got tired of being cooped up in the tower, so she snuck out. Very clliché, she knows, but when you've got problems like her and just so happened to be in the same building as your father who just so happened to be Tony Stark, well, you'd leave too.

Sneaking out wasn't too hard. She made a gap in the protective shield around the building and hopped through. It closed behind her and it was like it never happened.

She found herself wandering the streets of New York. Spencer has read that New York is never quiet, but that just wasn't the case for her. She could enjoy every part of the city and not have to deal with car horns, or police sirens.

Her mind wanders and she decides to visit Midtown. She could blend right in and explore. Maybe even see Peter. She'd seen a photo from the year book, but those photos never did any good for anyone.

"This is so cool Peter! Do you have any idea how cool this is?" Ned rambled to his friend as they ate lunch on the stairs to the school. "Of course I do Ned!" Ned takes a bite of his sandwich and moans. Mr. Delmar's sandwiches were amazing. "I don't think you do. Do you even know who the Mute is?" Peter shakes his head. Ned pulls out his phone and searches 'The Mute Hacker'. Several articles appear and he hands the phone to Peter.

"They're like the Iron Man of hackers." Peter was amazed. Spencer - whoever they were - had done so much good. The most recent article said they helped the Avengers take down a HYDRA base in Siberia. "So the Avengers know them?" Ned shrugs and looks around as he chews his food, but he suddenly freezes. "Peter." Peter looks at him. Ned slowly points to the street corner. "Someone is watching us." Peter follows Ned's eyes and sees a slim figure on the other side of the street. They were watching Peter and Ned.

The figure pulls out their phone, and Peter tries to discern any features, but their face was hidden under a hood.

Spencer:
You look different from your school picture.

Peter's eyes widen and he looks at the figure who slowly puts their phone away. Peter catches a glimpse of a smile, then the figure turns the corner and leaves. "Ned," He grabs his friend's arm. "It was them. It was Spencer." Ned's eyes widen and he looks around, but they have already left. "Are you going after them?" Peter considers it, but the bell rings, signifying that lunch was over. "No. Let's get to class."

Spencer casually strolls back into the communal floor and is faced with a bunch of worried Avengers. "Where the hell were you?" She shrugs and simply signs 'Out.' Tony crosses his arms. "How'd you get through the shield?" Spencer raises an eyebrow. She didn't understand how they couldn't grasp the concept that nothing can stop her.

The Avengers watch as Spencer leaves the room, presumably to get to her own. "That kid is going to be the end of us." The others nod in agreement. "Where do you think she went?" Tony shrugs. "I don't know. I don't have a way to track her. I'm more concerned about how she got out of the tower." Sam shrugs. "Couldn't she just-" He mimics typing. "Hack her way out?" Tony shakes his head. "I upgraded my systems. It only responds to genetic commands." They raise an eyebrow at him, not understanding. He rolls his eyes. "It only works for my DNA. Kind of like a fingerprint."

Natasha hums. She's got an idea, but she wants to confirm it. She jumps to her feet and walks away. "What's she up to?" Tony asks Clint. "Dunno."
