Eon twirled a dagger around his fingers, the sleek metal catching the light and reflecting in his red eyes. Far from friendly.
"You've been running from me," My head dropped back against the headrest, exhaustion creeping through my bones and weighing me down. I was stupid, how stupid did I have to be to think that I had even the slightest chance away from him? Eon wasn't forgiving.
"Running... that's a very brand term. I would say.. it was a small vacation?" Eon didn't seem amused and didn't even respond right away. I almost thought he would drop it until he flipped the radio off and leaned forwards against the steering wheel with his fingers laced together.
I had no idea where we were, there were trees all around us that were just barely visible through the velvety night. As soon as he pulled off the main road the headlights had been cut off, essentially leaving me completely blind save for the faint glow of the radio.
"How far were you expecting to get? Realistically."
"I dunno.. Farther than I actually ended up. I couldn't..." I took a deep breath and stared hard at the radio. "I couldn't leave the city," I don't know why I couldn't leave.
No, that's a lie.
I knew exactly why. There was no way on this stupid earth that I could survive without him. Yes, he absolutely is an inhuman monster who taught me how to kill and was sending me on a death mission for reasons he couldn't be bothered to explain to me, but I couldn't survive without him, and I wasn't sure I even wanted to.
"You need me," My fingers slowly moved to wrap around the hilt of the dagger at my waistline.
"You need me too."
"Do I?" He caught my wrist just before the tip of the dagger could sink into his stomach. My hand trembled and there was not even an ounce of resistance in my actions as he pulled the blade steadily from my fingers, dropping my arm limply between us.
"Let's not do that again," He murmured, lacing his fingers with mine. Our eyes met, my head swarming with so many thoughts it was impossible to focus on anything but what was happening in the now.
Him.
His lips brushing against my knuckles.
Pointed teeth lightly grazing my skin.
"I do need you. I need you with me, bound to me. Which is why you 'vacationing' away from me can't happen again. We have a plan.. don't you trust it?" The world was so soft now, peace washing up to the two of us like waves gently lapping at our ankles. Tethered together with silky ribbon, I leaned close to him.
"I do trust you," my words just barely slurred together, and that was what sent the alarm bells off in my head because I jerked away from him.
