The moon reigned high and mighty above the heath,
where upon the demon sat,
lost in his thoughts,
ignoring the agonising pit of loneliness and despair welling up in his heart.

Mammon knows he should've known better than to fall for a mortal,
a stupid mortal.
But how could he not,
when they looked at him with such adoration in their eyes,
praising him in compliments of all sorts,
keeping him in check...
What wasn't there to love about that silly, silly human?

It had been thousands of years now since you made your departure from him,
there was no gruesome murder or a suicide,
it was natural.
Maybe that's what pained him the most,
as your death was inevitable by the laws of nature.
Every human died,
whether they wanted to or not,
with such a short lifespan compared to that of the higher beings.

He missed you.
Plain and simple.
He wanted you back in his embrace,
to hold you close to him whilst you whispered sweet nothings into his chest.

No matter how he tried to hide his pain,
he couldn't.
No matter how much money he flung around town,
No matter how much he drank every night,
No matter how many times he failed the same test,
No matter how much useless shit he bought,
No matter how many witches he was indebt to due to spontaneous spending and promises,
his pain was still there.
As if it hadn't even budged.

Clutching his knees to his chest as if they were going to fall off if he didn't do so,
he solemnly lifted his head up to face the clouds.
It was a sight, really.
The sky was a deep, navy blue, almost as deep as the sea,
clouds threaded through one another and blurred the beaming moonlight.
The demon sighed,
knowing you would've loved to see such a sight like this in the Devildom one last time.

"Mc..."
He spoke,
absentmindedly,
his voice cracking as he held tears back.
"I miss ya.. a-and-"
Gulping,
he released a shaky sigh,
shoving his forehead down onto his knees that were still held close to his chest.
"I hope you can hear me, Mc, I want you back. M-more than anything... just please, please please please, come home..."

Tears slid down his reddening face,
hanging on by his jawline before hitting his jeans as they fell gently in the slight breeze.
He ignored the dampness forming beneath him,
be didn't care.
He let his sadness eat him up,
the sadness he had been trying to mask for so many years now.

"Come back to me, I beg, I don't want anyone else but you-"
He choked up again as he threw his head back,
bringing one arm up to shield his mouth and muffle his sobs of desperation.

Yet he knew it was all useless.
He would never see you again,
there was no afterlife after this.
If anything,
you were trapped elsewhere for falling for a demon of all beings.

Every night and every day,
Mammon still prayed for your return,
no matter how badly the words of praise and God burned the insides his mouth,
he prayed for you.
For you to atleast be somewhere safe,
your soul at rest.

If either one of you could rest and reach some kind of peace,
he wanted it to be you.
He still had multiple millennia left to live,
but your short span was over.

And it had been over for centuries now.

But he clung on to the idea that you were safer now,
happier.

The thought kept him himself going,
it gave him courage to continue living his solemn and now lonely life.

But he was content with being so lonely again,
he had been used to it before you had entered his life anyways,
yet everything felt different now.

But as long as you had your peace,
he was happy with his sadness,
taking this everlasting pain and grieve as a punishment for allowing himself to fall for a mortal.

A mortal, of all beings.
