Just another night

We have been walking for some time now, the sun has already went down and by now I'm already walking normally by myself , altho Rayla still hangs closer to me, just in case. To be honest it's just really adorable how much she cares. I'm even starting to care about her more and more every time she looks at me, I'm kinda scared of where this is going to lead but, I'm hella excited as well.

I smirked to myself whilst thinking about stuff like that. Rayla turned to look at me with a puzzled look. "You alright?"

"Yes I am, thanks to you" I said with the smirk still on my face. She rolled her eyes and turned away from me again. I saw a little blush creep on the tip of her ears. This just made me smile even more.

I let a little laugh out and yelled out to others "Ok, guys, I think we can stop for the night!"

As I said that I heard Ezran sigh "finally!"  He said and plopped down on the ground.

I felt pain in my wrist, the wristband was getting really tight now, I looked at Rayla and she had the same worry full look on her face as I did.

"What's up with those wristband thingies?" Suddenly Callum asked and came closer to us. "They surely mean something"

"Nope, they are just decorative" I said with a lot of fake confidence, and a straight face.

"Really?" He asked, not really believing me.

"Yes, really" Rayla said "you should be getting ready to rest" she said to Callum.

"Yeah, I really should" he said with a yawn  "And don't be up too late you two! We have a long way ahead of us!" He said as he was walking away.

"Now that's something you would usually say" Rayla said with a little giggle at the end.

"Yes, yes I would" I said with a smirk "so I'm telling you this now, go get some rest, young lady, cuz we have a long way ahead of us!" I said the last part in a kind of a mocking voice.

She scoffed "yeah, right, and leave you the fun of checking the perimeter? Ooh, no no no, imma come with you" She said not really giving me much choice here, not that I'm against her coming with me.

"Fine" I simply said crossing my arms "just try to keep up" I smirked.

"Alright then" she returned a smirk as well "threetwoone, go!" She said quickly and was already half way up a tree.

I looked at her, clearly surprised by the sudden move.

"You coming or what?" She yelled at me from the top of the tree.

"Sure thing!" I yelled back and quickly got up the tree next to her. "Your turn to keep up" I grinned and quickly started jumping from tree to tree. I heard her following me shortly after.

We were just looking around the place we were camping at just to see if everything was safe and in order.

After a few minutes of running and jumping on the trees, I came to a stop on a not so big of a branch. "I think we can stop now!" I yelled, a little out of breath, to Rayla not knowing how far she is.

I turned to look at the direction she was at, she was on the branch next to the one I was on and as I turned fully to face her she decided to try to jump on the one I was on, which, as I mentioned, wasn't very big.

As she landed on the branch, she immediately lost her balance and was about to fall, but as she was about to lose touch with the branch, I took her by her arm and pulled her back on, and to stabilize her I quickly put my arm around her waist.

"Th-thanks" she said with a shaky voice.

We were so close together, the moonlight glimmering in her eyes. I felt my face heat up, she is truly one beautiful elf. We were staring each other in the eyes for solid two minutes now. I really want to kiss her. I felt my head inch closer to her, she also moved a little bit closer, but then suddenly she just looked away.

Blush started to cover her face as she noticed how close we were. I loosened my grip around her waist as she was getting more comfortable on the branch.

"Didn't notice how small this branch actually was" she said with an akward laugh at the end.

As she took a step further we hear the branch crack under us.

"Yeah, we should probably get down" I said scratching the back of my neck.

"Yeah, Probably" she said and we both slowly made our way to the ground.

When we got down the tree, we noticed that we were right beside a river, which means we weren't that far from the camp as we were following the river.

"Hey, wanna just sit here for a moment?" Rayla asked whilst sitting on the ground with her back against a rock facing the river.

"Sure thing" I said with a smile and sat down next to her.

"How are you holding up?" She asked after a while, pulling her knees closer to her, her eyes fixed on the flowing river.

"Can you be more specific?" I asked and she looked at me.

"You know, about the things that happened in the castle, the fact that we had to leave the other elves, and what about these?" She said pointing to her wristband "we are gonna lose our arms any day now"

"Well, the wristbands are truly annoying, but...you know, there is a way to get them off" I said and glanced at the direction our camp was at.

"You don't actually mean that you want to kill the prince, do you?" She asked with visible worry on her face.

"I..." I looked away from her "Ugh! I don't know what I want anymore!" I burried my face in my hands.

"You know, that we are doing the right thing, right?" Rayla said whilst looking at me.

I looked up from my hands and looked at the river "yeah, I know. I think I know. I've still got to figure that one out" I lowered my tone  "I hope that this isn't a mistake" I said silently whilst looking at the ground next to my feet.

"It's not, and you'll see that eventually. But I do understand that it's all just confusing for you now" she said, also with a toned down voice, not taking her eyes off the river.

"It sure is.." I sighed "well, to answer your question, I'm fine" I looked at her, turning my head slightly.

"Fine?" She asked again looking back at me.

"Yep" I simply answered.

"That's not true, and you know it, you just made it very clear" she turned her gaze back to the river.

There was a moment of silence, all we could hear was the wind rustling the leaves all around us and the water in the river flowing, and occasionally a frog croaking. It wasn't akward at all, actually, it was kind of relaxing.

"I know that's not true" I say after some thinking.

"Then tell me, what is" Rayla said with real worry in her voice.

"Maybe another night" I sighed and slowly stood up " we should really get some rest" I said and reached my hand out to help her get up, she took it and got up.

As I started to turn to go back to camp, I felt her not letting my hand go "Wait" she said with a calm voice. I turned back to face her, and she quickly put her other hand on my cheek and gave me a quick peck on the lips. Now she let go of my hand and started walking back to camp.

I just stood there frozen for a bit, trying to understand what the hell actually happened. I got a lot of different emotions in me right now. Happiness, confusion, and... sadness? Can't really explain it. C'mon, you can't just do that and then leave me guessing! That was a proper sneak attack...

Anyway, I did recover eventually and slowly made my way to camp, where I still couldn't fall asleep for a solid half an hour or so. Can't wait for the morning...
