Dead to me // Colby Brock

038 • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 •

It was around two in the morning right now and my head was racing with wild thoughts. Both Brennen and I had promised each other not to tell anyone what had happened but that was pretty hard when you were covered head to toe in blood that wasn't yours.

Brennen would remind me every two seconds on how fun today was and how it was all going to be fine but I couldn't help but feel so much guilt. Brennen would say how it was better off that we went inside because that man could have killed someone else that belonged to purple but I still couldn't care less.

We just killed someone.

Ever since my grandmother had passed away, death has always been a massive apart of my mental health and then causing one to happen made me feel extremely sick.

Once Brennen had parked the car and turned it off I had jumped out of it faster than a bolt of lightning. I wanted to be the furthest away from any type of human than I could ever get.

When I was at the front door I had knocked loudly hoping for someone to answer instantly so I could just go to bed and thankfully someone heard my prayers.

But just not as I had planned.

As soon as Andrea had made eye contact with the dried blood on my clothes she let out a piercing scream that could wake up someone from across the country.

I stood still watching as Jeff runs towards Andrea before slightly pushing her out of the way to look at what she was screeching at. Once Jeff had made contact with me he had quickly ran over to me as if I dying on the spot. He places one of his hand on my cheek and immediately I wanted to melt at his warm touch.

''Hey Ava, listen to me your ok" He whispers bringing me back to reality. At that moment when I had met his eyes, I had noticed I had entered into a shocked state that I would go into when we were dating.

"Andrea what's wrong, whos there!" Colby shouts running towards the voices before he was standing next to Andrea horrified at the sight that was in front of him. He stood still as he looked between Brennen and me.

"What the fuck happened!" He finally shouts walking over to Brennen.

Jeff removes his hand away from my cheek making it go cold at the touch of the wind.

"Aye calm down grandpa, we always come home like this" Brennen explains shrugging his shoulders which had only made Colby angrier.

"Excuse me, coming home every day like this is normal for you, Ava is all new to this!" Colbys shouts making my body instantly go into power mode.

I wasn't going to let Brennen take all of the blame when he was the person who had literally tried to hold me back from entering the old man's house. I couldn't watch Brennen take all of the blame when I was the one who had caused everything to happen. I whip my head towards Brennen and Colby, slowly stepping away from Jeff.

"It was all my fault" I respond making everyone look towards me. "Brennen had tried to stop me but I had ignored him" I reply back fastly spilling everything all out at once. I knew I was going to get into trouble but at this point, I honestly didn't even care.

"What?" Colby remarks walking over to me trying to contain his anger but I could tell he was going to burst any second now.

"I killed someone and Brennen had finished because I was too scared to do it myself" I softly reply back. Jeff takes a step away from me looking back at me like I was a stranger off of the streets.

"Do you understand how much danger you have put us in!" Colby yells waving his hands in the air.

"He was 60 and lived in the middle of the woods I don't think he would do anything" I reply back cockily as I had a sudden urge to fight with him. This must be what Brennen feels like.

"And? that doesn't change anything Ava you could have gotten killed!" He hisses back instantly. "Well, shit happens" I reply back shrugging my shoulders. I watch as Colby's face goes completely numb and I knew he about to lose it if either I or him didn't leave in the next 2mins.

"Hey guys maybe let's go inside and talk about this like normal people" Andrea softly says trying to smile but I just knew she just didn't want the neighbors hearing Colby and I argue over me killing someone.

"Yeah you know what, shit does fucking happen your correct, but I care about your safety just like everyone else here does so I'm going to need you to start taking all of this seriously before you get yourself hurt!" He yells causing my blood to shiver at his words.

"I'm sorry you care? Colby you have never cared about me nor anyone else here!" Brennen randomly shouts catching everyone's attention. Colby looks to be taken back by his words for a split second but I watch as his face slowly returns back to his angry self.

"Stop being selfish Brennen, I care about you just like I care about everyone else in the house and at this time right now Ava is my duty to take care of and keep her safe!" Colby yells back and immediately everything had clicked and I couldn't keep my mouth shut.

"I understand that you have engraved on me Colby but that doesn't make you the boss of me and my life" I fastly but loudly shout back at him, making everything spill out like word vomit. My brain was so fried that I didn't even realize what I had just said until Colby let out a loud sarcastic laugh.

"Me engraving on you? I would rather engrave on fucking Anastasia then you!" He yells back and then right at the moment I had felt everything inside of my crush down to my toes.

The number of times I had said that I didn't want Colby to engrave on me had all flushed back at once and hit me like a bus. His tone of voice had pierced my heart as I had replayed the words in my head like a broken record. He sounded as if he was disgusted on engraving on me which had made me want to scream until my voice disappeared.

I go to open my mouth but I instantly close it stopping myself from saying something worse than before. Colby let out a little laugh before rolling his eyes.

"Pathetic" he hisses before walking over to Brennen and snatches the keys out of his grip. He doesn't look back at anyone or says anything, instead he jumps into the car and quickly pulls out faster then I could blink.

I couldn't move from my spot as my eyes were drawn to the now empty driveway that once had Brennen's car in it.

"Hey Ava, sweetheart please come here" Andrea whispers as if I was a little girl that had just seen a ghost.

"Ava" Jeff whispers placing his hands on my shoulders making me jump at his touch. Jeff quickly places his hand down beside him giving me concerned look.

"He's a fucking dickhead, fuck he makes me so annoyed!" Brennen hisses rolling his eyes and walking past everyone and into the house.

As much as I don't want to say this, I actually want the engraving to be true.

I want Colby to like me.
