nini salazar-roberts was whisked away from her childhood home town at the age of 14 for fame. she didn't only leave her friends and family, but she also left the boy she thought would be the love of her life.

"neens why are we sitting here?" ricky asks as he looks around the children's park
"because it's peaceful." she smiles "look. close your eyes and just listen."
he watches her lie down and close both of her eyes, raising his eyebrows confused
the brunette girl opens one of her eyes to see him and sighs "ricky!"
"okay okay." he laughs, lying down next to her and closing his eyes
"okay, so listen around you and you can just hear the wind moving against the trees and the birds chirping." she says softly
they both stay there in silence for a few minutes before the boy opens his eyes and turns his head to look at her
she feels his eyes on her and opens her own before turning around with a smile
"what?" she asks
ricky sits up nervously and mumbles "nothing."
nini looks at him worried and takes his hand, making them both feel electricity shoot up and down their arms
"ricky. we've been best friends since kindergarten. tell me." she pleads
the boy looks up into her eyes and takes a deep breath "uh-i-i kind of like someone."
nini feels her heart sink but tries not to show the disappointment on her face
"oh." she breathes "w-who?"
the boy takes another deep breath "you."
nini looks at him with her eyes wide and feels herself floating on air
"what?"
ricky groans and buried his face in his hands "i can't believe i just did that! i mean you're my best friend and i know that this is going to be so awkward between us." he looks up at her "i'm sorry neens, just forget what-"
he gets cut off with nini's lips on his and he kisses back instantly
she pulls away and feels the heat rise to her cheeks at the fact that she just had her first kiss.
"uh-i-that-that was-" ricky had no words
"i kind of like you too." she whispers, keeping her head down

ricky laid down at the children's park staring at the blue sky with clouds forming shape.
he keeps thinking about his first kiss at thirteen years old with her.
she was his first everything.
the boy hates himself for letting her consume his every thought, but he couldn't help it.
he loved her.
he really did
but apparently she didn't. at least not enough to just leave without saying anything.
seeing her today was just the cherry on top.
he couldn't deal with this over his mom bringing her new boyfriend back to town for the week.

ricky puts his phone down and sees gina walking towards him with a small smile
"how did you find me?" he asks
"it's called instinct." she smirks reciting miss jenn's wise words
"how did you know?" gina asks, sitting next to him on the grass
"i saw her. had to take her freaking order at ferellie's." he scoffs shaking his head
"i'm sorry ricky." gina whispers "we just didn't know how to break the news to you. we all knew how you were after she left."
the boy clears his throat uncomfortably and nods while picking at the grass
"you're at the place." she points out
ricky looks around him "i don't know how i came here."
"you still love her dude." she laughs softly
he shakes his head "no. i don't. i hate her."
"ricky-"
"no gina. she left me." he says "we loved each other! i know we were only fourteen and it sounds stupid. but i thought it was true. i know how strong my feelings for her were, but-" he scoffs "i guess she just didn't feel the same. she left me without anything but her mom telling me she was gone. so i hate her."
gina's heart slowly breaks when she hears his voice crack and sees his eyes shining
she pulls him in for a hug and he relaxes in his best friend's arms
"i'm always here for you." she whispers
ricky shudders a breath "i know."
she pulls away and looks up at the sky "that looks like you." she smirks
he looks up at the sky to see a cloud shaped like a blob
"you're the blob." he mutters
gina whacks his arm and they lie back as they point at the sky, naming the shapes of the clouds
"oh!" gina squeals "that looks like an elephant!"
ricky tilts his head "oh yeah!"
they both laugh as they continue to pick out shapes in the sky.

nini arrived home and went straight to her room to play some music
she plays a random melody while writing the notes into her notebook and checks the time on her phone, frowning at the fact that she was supposed to facetime ej about now. she really needed to hear his voice.
suddenly she gets a text from him
