nini salazar-roberts was whisked away from her childhood home town at the age of 14 for fame. she didn't only leave her friends and family, but she also left the boy she thought would be the love of her life.

nini and ricky were back to normal and everyone couldn't be happier. the two would already share inside jokes and would never stop smiling or laughing when in each other's company.
the bell rang, signalling the end of the day, and nini waited for ej to pick her up to go to yellowfinn
"hey neens." ricky smiles as he walks out with his helmet on his head and his skateboard in his hand
"oh hey." she says before looking around waiting
"are you not going home?" he asks with a laugh
nini joins him, shaking her head "i'm-uh- waiting for ej. he's picking me up to go to yellowfinn."
ricky looks at her "oh. okay. well i've gotta go. my shift is starting in a few minutes"
"alright i'll see you tomorrow." she smiles
he waves her goodbye as he rolls off on his skateboard, nini watching his figure slowly decreasing in size
"nini!"
the girl turns around to see her boyfriend with a warm smile on his face as he stays in the car
she runs up to the car and climbs in, feeling his lips on hers before she could process it
"what was that for?" nini giggles as she puts her seatbelt on
"just for being you." he winks
nini grimaces at the cheesy line, making ej laugh and start driving to the restaurant
he casually rests his hand on her thigh, but it gives her an uneasy feeling inside. she didn't know why. he always used to do this when they were in l.a and she got used to it, so why the sudden change?
they arrive at the restaurant and take a table in a secluded area where they won't be seen easily and order their food before going into conversation
"so, tell me about high school! has there been any parties? did you get sharpay's locker?!" he asks excitedly
nini laughs "well, no and no."
he continues to laugh and takes her hand "i missed you."
"me too." she smiles
suddenly her phone buzzes and she takes it to see what it was

"who's that?" ej asks her
"huh?" nini looks up from her phone and switches it off "oh! no one, just one of my friends."
ej nods "okay."
"so, tell me about filming! how is it?"
"it's really fun! my character has so many secrets it's actually giving me a headache." he laughs
"what are they?!" she asks
"you'll have to watch the movie." he smirks
nini starts whining, making him laugh and their food arrives

ricky switches his phone off and leaned his head on his hands while sitting at the counter
"you good?" ashlyn asks with a laugh
"huh?" ricky snaps his head towards her
"are you okay?" she asks again
"oh. uh-yeah. i'm fine." he smiles
'totally fine.'

"alright you ready?" ej asks after paying
nini nods and they both stand up, making their way to the car to her house
when they arrive, they both enter the house and carol greets ej with a smile and a hug
"how are you doing carol?" ej asks
"i'm good honey, are you staying?" carol asks
"well, only for a movie, then i have to get back to my hotel." ej says
carol nods "i'll get you both some snacks then."
they both thank carol and nini leads him up to her room where she puts on something more comfortable and ej looks around her room
"i can picture fourteen year old nini playing her ukulele in here." he says, gesturing to the egg chair
nini laughs and jumps onto her bed, opening her laptop
ej sits down next to her, looking up at the polaroid pictures and taking one off its clip
"who's this?" he asks
nini looks at the picture and widens her eyes slightly

"oh. uh- that's ricky." nini says shortly
"you guys seem close." he laughs, looking at all the other pictures of them
nini nods with a small smile "yeah. he's my best friend."
'and my ex, but he doesn't really have to know that... right?'
"well, he looks like a cool guy. i should meet him soon." ej says
"y-yeah."
ej lies back and puts his arm out, letting nini to snuggle close to him, waiting for the movie to start
"love you." he whispers
"me too." she smiles
when nini had that moment with ricky, or when she was hanging out with him, a part of her questioned whether or not she still loved ej. but right now, she was almost certain that she was in the right place.
