a/n: please love me this part took more than an hour to write
also i might change updating schedule to every two days

The front door unlocks to the Hado household and opens to reveal Nejire and Y/N walking in, both carrying bags from the convenience store.
Laughing, telling jokes and making awful(or amazing) puns, they go into the living room. Setting the bags at their feet, they plop down onto the couch continuing their friendly chatter.
At one point, the topic of boyfriends/crushes came up (wow haha who would've guessed ahaha so original)
"So, are you interested in anyone right now?~" Y/N teases, a flush of bright red forms across Nejire's face
"W-well,,, yes.." She looks down
Y/N gasps "Now I need to know more about him!"
"Actually,, it's not a guy.." Nejire began
"Oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to assume like that-"
"That's okay! I never brought it up! I haven't told my parents yet, or anyone for that matter.. I'm not sure how they'd react.. It's just, they always talk about how 'no boy will ever be good enough for my daughter' (dad) or 'when are you going to get a boyfriend?' (mom) and I just.. I worry they'll be upset with me.." Nejire rants as tears begin to shed
"I'm so sorry for bringing this up!" Y/N starts, enveloping Nejire into a hug
"It's okay, I don't really want to get into it"
"That's fine, just let me know if you ever need to talk"
Nejire nods and gives one of her genuine smiles, assuring Y/N that she was alright
"So, can I meet her?~"
"Y-Y/N!!" Nejire stutters, her face returning to it's red state
"Sorry, sorry" Y/N giggles, patting Nejire's head of hair that she'd been using to hide her face
"Her name is Yuyu... she's a third (3rd) year too. I'll try to introduce you guys sometime" Nejire fiddles with a few strands of her hair
"I look forward to it" Y/N smiles
"But what about Tamaki? I know he's with Akane and all, but has anything happened between you two?" Nejire asks
Y/N's first thought was the ski trip, and her head perks up immediately after hearing her question. Thankfully, it goes unnoticed by Nejire.
"I know it might sound toxic or mean, rooting for you guys behind their back when he's already in a relationship... but has he shown any signs, maybe? Maybe something he's said, or a gesture?" Nejire asks
'So much for not thinking about him..' Y/N thinks to herself
"N-Not that I can think of. If there was, I probably didn't put much thought into it. I might've seen it as a normal friend thing, we've been friends since grade school.."
"Oh yeah! I forget you two knew each other during childhood! Well, are there interesting stories from back then? Tamaki usually forces Mirio to stop talking before he can tell me anything, but he isn't here now, hehe!" Nejire giggles
"Well yeah, there are tons of things I could tell you about him." Y/N smiles to herself looking back on a few memories from their childhood
"How did you guys meet then?" Nejire asks
"Through Mir-"
"In detail!! >:V"
"Oh, haha!" Y/N think back on that day, it still vivid in her memory
"MOM! I want you to meet my new friend!" Mirio's voice rings through the house, footsteps running into the kitchen, where Y/N sat on the counter with her mother cooking on the stovetop burner.
"He's new to my class, this is Tamaki Amajiki!" Miro exclaimed, looking behind him.
In walks an indigo haired boy. Y/N immediately noticed how his shoulders slouched back, his hair covered his face, and his eyes that barely poked out, showing off his matching indigo irises just slightly.
Placing down the spoon she had been using, Mrs. Togata turned to the two boys- Tamaki in particular.
"It's very nice to meet you, Amajiki" She smiled down at him
"I-It's n-ice t-to m-m-meet yo-u.. Too.." Tamaki barely managed to make out
Y/N watched him closely. He was a lot different than her younger brother or any of his other friends, and he immediately sparked her interest. Hopping off of the countertop, she calmly walked over to him and held out her hand
"I'm Y/N, Mirio's older sister" She said
"T-Tamaki.." He shook her hand, and stared into her eyes. He admired how bright and peaceful they were. How they shined. Like the sun. He was interrupted by a voice calling out to him
"You're welcome to stay for dinner if you would like." Mrs. Togata said
"I-I wouldn't w-want to b-e a b-bother!"
"You wouldn't be!" Y/N grabbed both of his hands and held them in hers, and looked back into his eyes. His reserved, kind irises. Unbeknownst to her, he had continued his staring, and began getting lost in the s/e/c (specific eye colour). Tamaki only nodded when he finally woke from his trance.
"C'mon Tamaki! Let's go upstairs to my room until dinner!" Mirio said, finally chiming in
Y/N had let go of his hands and gave him a small wave, along with a smile
Tamaki turned, returning a smaller smile, before following Mirio upstairs.
And that's where it all started. Mirio brought Tamaki over more after school and on the weekends, and Y/N and Tamaki grew closer. Tamaki admired how energetic yet calm she was around him. Sounds silly, those being almost completely different, but that was just Y/N. In a good way, of course. She managed to reassure him that he was safe whenever she was around. Like the spotlight didn't shine on him, and if it was, she made sure he knew she was there beside him, giving him the comfort and confidence to stand in the spotlight. Her mother noticed how whenever Tamaki would walk through the front door, how brightly her daughter's eyes shone and how she quickly ran over to greet him. Of course, she didn't voice these things- at least until Y/N would be able to understand those feelings more.
Y/N smiled to herself, looking back on their childhood.
"AWE! That's adorable!" Nejire squealed, bringing Y/N back into the present.
"Wait, so did you like him back then too?"
"Well, I did notice that I enjoyed being around him, and how happy he made me, but at that age, I didn't put any thought to it. During junior high is around when I began thinking about my feelings more, but it still took a while to realize what they actually were and that it was more than just friendly affection."
"And I'm assuming-knowing how he is- Tamaki didn't show signs of liking you?"
"Correctamundo, my friend. He didn't show much affection to anyone, really. I didn't have many friends growing up, so I wasn't very experienced in friendships. Another reason I thought my feelings were just friend-related, I didn't have anything to compare off of- so I assumed everything he did was with the same intentions I did"
(a/n: Y/N's explanations suck tbh I'm sorry it's 1am)
"Oh. Wait, 'not many friends'?"
"I was really shy growing up. I didn't have it as bad as Tamaki, but I didn't do very well when it came to socializing back in grade school. I mainly hung out with Mirio and Tamaki in school-when, despite grade differences. (a/n: remember cos you're 1-2 years older, so a year ahead of them). Other than that, I was by myself for the most part, occasionally with a few friends who I wasn't that close with. When I was older, around my final year of elementary, I grew more confident, and that confidence continued growing over the next few years."
"I see. I definitely didn't expect you to be the quiet type. You're always so outgoing and your job is based around communication" Nejire said
"Well, things changed for the better, more so during my time away. I learnt more about myself and experienced the real world, and grew from those experiences" Y/N explained
"Did you have fun living by yourself? Didn't you miss home?" Nejire asked
"At times, I had a roommate, so I wasn't always alone. And yeah, of course I did. I missed a lot of things about my life here in Japan. Learning a new language was kinda difficult at times, and there was a language barrier between me and a lot of others, but that just encouraged me to continue forward, and I managed. I don't regret my time in America. It opened many cool opportunities and experiences. That's off topic, my bad" Y/N chuckles
"That's okay! I've never been able to visit America, it's cool to hear about different cultures and lifestyles" Nejire exclaimed, urging Y/N to continue
The majority of the night was spent with the two girls watching movies, eating their snacks from the store, Y/N telling stories about childhood and America, Nejire sharing her's about Mirio and Tamaki before Y/N came back. A much needed break from the real world. A break from reality.

a/n: at first, i planned on including more of a rant/vent on Nejire's part, but decided against it because I didn't want to come off as insensitive or unrelatable. I felt uncomfortable going further seeing as I didn't do much research on the topic and originally planned on basing it off of what I have seen/heard before either online or from friends, but decided to play it safe. I hope anyone struggling knows that you are valid, despite what anyone says <3
