Farewell Comrades

Y/N POV

I awoke from inside a medical tent when I heard a loud explosion. I sat up and rubbed my head as I looked down to see my torso bandaged up and a band aid on my cheek

"What the hell. Where am I?" I say out loud

Leeron then walks over to me and explains the events of the day prior and the plan for tomorrow

"Fuck. We got a big day tomorrow huh?" I ask

"Yup" Leeron responds, "Oh that reminds me, Kamina wanted to talk to you if you woke up"

"Great. Thanks" I say walking out of the tent to see a lot of new faces talking around a campfire, until a familiar face spots me and walks over

"Yo Y/N, come meet the guys" Kittan says slumping his arm over my shoulder and walking us over to the others

Kittan introduces me to the other fighters and frankly I really like em. They don't seem to know what they're doing but seem very willing to help.

"Any y'all seen Kamina?" I ask

"Yeah I'm pretty sure I saw him over there" Kittan says pointing me in his direction

"Thanks" I say walking over to see what he wanted to tell me

Simon POV

I was curled up in a blanket inside Lagann, trying to get some sleep before tomorrow, practically shitting myself in nervousness, when I heard a knock.

"Y-Yoko" I say turning to see who it was

"What're ya doing out here" she asks

"I couldn't get to sleep" I say

"You're under a lot of pressure. You are they key to tomorrow's operation ya know" she says

"Well that's part of it" I say as I think about how she made me feel

"Ya see..." I say before being interrupted by another eruption from the mountain

"Those are called volcanoes. Those fire breathing mountains I mean. There's molten magma bubbling inside the earths crust and every once in a while, it comes shooting out of mountains" she explains

"They're just like Kamina" I joke

"Kamina said the same thing. 'Sounds just like me' he said. Is that the old 'male bonding' at work or what" she says

"No. Not exactly" I say

"Here" Yoko says handing me a cup of soup, "Careful. It's hot. If you go into battle hungry, Lagann can't operate at full power"

"Thanks" I say

"Simon..." Yoko says looking at me looking very sincere

"Its nothing. Forget it" she says with a soft smile, "Good Luck Simon"

I watch as she skips off before taking a sip of my soup, burning my tongue in the process

Yoko POV

I gave Leeron my rifle so he could do maintenance and I wanted to see how he was doing. I walked into his tent and asked him how it went.

"Have a look for yourself" he says pointing at it in the corner

I pick up the rifle and inspect it

"Yes. I knew you could do it. I won't be missing any shots with this thing" I remark

"I was surprised. You hardly let anyone do maintenance on it" Leeron says typing away at his laptop

"Well failure isn't an option. Gurren Lagann is more powerful than Gurren on its own. Offensively and defensively. And if Kamina rushes in like usual, he might need some backup" Yoko explains
