In some werewolf stories they find their mates only after 18 years. In other stories once their first shift. Or even once they turn 16.
In some books you will realise you both are mates only if both of you have reached the age of finding the mate.
While in other books, the one who have reached the age will know that they are mates, but the one who haven't reached the age won't.
However the one who haven't reached the age might find the other attractive and might find themselves drawn to him/her.
