The next morning, Gally started taking control of the Glade. Good thing Newt's still second-in-command. Gally put Thomas, Teresa, and me in the same pit. Thomas finally woke up since they used the other syringe on him last night. Newt, Minho, and Chuck are sitting outside the pit bars, checking on us.
"Hey. Are you okay?" Teresa asks him in concern.
He doesn't respond but just sits up.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Chuck asks sternly at him.
I couldn't help but smile at that.
"What happened?" Thomas asks.
"Gally's taken control. He said we had a choice. Either join him or get banished at sundown with you." Newt answers.
"And the others agreed to that?" Thomas asks in shock.
"Gally has everyone convinced that you and me are the reason all this has happened." I say guiltily.
"Well, he's been right so far." Thomas responds.
I look at him in shock and confusion. What did he mean by that?
"What are you talking about?" Minho asks.
"This place...It's not what we thought it was. It's not a prison, it's a test. It all started when we were kids. They'd give us these challenges. They were experimenting on us. And then people started disappearing, every month, one after the other like clockwork." Thomas says with a guilty look on his face. I could tell something's wrong.
"They sent them up into the maze?" Newt asks, trying to piece everything together.
"Yeah, but not all of us." Thomas answers.
"What do you mean?" Newt asks with his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Guys, I'm one of them. The people who put you here, I worked with them. I...I watched you guys for years. The entire time you been here, I was on the other side of it." Thomas says sadly.
I try to piece everything together. I look at him worriedly. He looks at Teresa and then me.
"And so were you girls." Thomas says with his voice breaking.
I felt my heart shatter at his words. I did this to the people who I grew close to as a family? Especially the one who I have a crush on?
"What...?" I ask, starting to tear up.
"Teresa, Jacqui, we did this to them. And Jacqui...you and Teresa are...sisters." Thomas said.
My heart was now broken but also in shock right now. That's why Teresa looked so familiar when she came. We're related.
"No...that can't be true. That we did this to them and that...we're sisters." I say as a tear streams down my cheek and I put my hand over my mouth in shock.
"It is. I saw it." Thomas says in shame and in honesty.
"Wh-Why would they send us up if we were with them?" Teresa asks in confusion and shock as a tear streamed down her cheek.
"It doesn't matter." Thomas responds.
More tears stream down my cheeks. I wish I could remember more about my past now that I know that Teresa is my sister. I wanna know who my parents were or why I was sent here.
"He's right. It doesn't matter. Any of it. Cuz the people we were before the maze, they don't even exist anymore. These Creators took care of that. But what does matter...is who we are now and what we do right now. You went into the maze and you found a way out." Newt says wholeheartedly. My heart starts pounding that he's not angry at what we did to them. And what he said, I agree with him. It's time to put the past behind us.
