The play is amazing.
And she's no less beautiful either.
When the curtain closes, she gets on stage to receive a standing ovation.
There's lights in her eyes, as far as he can tell.
In that moment he realizes how easy it would be to love her.
But when everything is done and over, he hesitates to congratulate her, in the middle of a sea of people, all talking fast and excitedly.
So he leaves her be, and stays up all night wondering what would have happened if he hadn't.

After the weekend, he gets up and goes to school, routinely.
He gets through the day and when he gets to Physics, he realizes that a desk is empty.
It's empty the day after that.
And the next day.
Until he finally understands.
