I leaned against the spear and winced. "Are we lost?"

Lylef looked around the forest. The fir trees were dense. Each one with a different trunk size and bark shapes, yet when looking upon them grouped they all looked the same. Her eyes twitched between trees as she rubbed her chin.

"We're not lost." Her smile caused my cheeks to redden. I turned away. "We're merrily turned around."

I groaned, pressing my cheek against the cold spear. What I'd do for something to eat ... a snout ... no more of this dried bread that made me thirsty as a parched horse. I looked behind me and plopped down on log, shifting my by t until I wasn't sitting upon knots.

Lylef grabbed my hand and tugged. "We can't sit here ... we need to keep moving."

"I need to rest. My leg is on fire."

"Let's keep marching until we're out of the woods." Lylef pointed in direction she believed was towards home. "Once we are free we can have a proper sit."

"I told you we should've stayed by the stream." I rubbed and massaged my shin tryin to rid away the pain. "But you said this way would be faster."

Lylef placed her hands on her hips. "You're not going to blame me for this, are you?"

I shrank into the log, frowning. "Well, it was you who told us to move and it was you who told Nhedri to leave."

"And if it weren't for me you'd be sitting at the stream waiting to be rescued ... alone!" She shrugged. "You're slowing me down. I can move quicker on my own. You just stay right here and I'll be right back-"

"You mean alone?" I gulped and shuddered. "Out here? With night cats and Minotaurs?" She nodded coldly. I groaned and rose to my feet. "No thanks!"

"Then you need to stop complaining and be grateful you have me." She pinched my ear and tugged. I groaned, "Ouch! What was that for?"

"You attitude." She pulled again and I clenched my teeth, trying to keep from moving. It hurt more when I fought. "Now. I want you to be on your best behavior the rest of the time, do you understand?"

"Yes, my Lady Horn ..."

"No more whining ..."

"Yes, my Lady Horn ..."

"And no more blaming ..." I nodded and groaned. When my ear turned red she released her hold and grinned like it'd never happened. She waved. "Follow me."

The trail was uneven and filled with more roots than I could count. I watched my steps closely, until my my wondered and placed a foot down wrong, sending a surge of sharp pain shooting through my leg. I groaned and moaned silently, carrying on, trying to keep Lylef from snatching my other ear.

After hours of marching, I looked at a twisted log that seemed vaguely familiar then sat upon it to catch my breath. After shifting twice to rid the knots from my rear, I looked upon the log and frowned.

"We are going in circles."

"No we're not ..."

I pointed to the log and said, "this was the log I sat on when you pulled my ear-" Pain shot through the side of my face. "Ouch! Stop that!" She had my ear and tugged.
