The girl ran down the stairway exit, all her emotions running wild with her. The pain had subsided, with the help of the makeshift bandage, and Talia prayed that it was just a surface wound, as she had once joked. In the distance she heard a bell tolling, and recognised it immediately as the Telmarine alarm.

She ran out into the courtyard, just as she heard Peter shout, "Now, Ed! Now! Signal the troops!"

"I'm a bit busy Pete!" Edmund called back, Talia noticed Edmund fighting off a Telmarine soldier, and she chased up the stairs to help him.

She watched as Edmund through hit after hit at the soldier, but she had no weapon to help him with. Edmund was disarmed by the man, "The torch!" she shouted, throwing it to her friend. And Edmund used it with class, he slammed it against his attacker's chin twice and with that the guard had collapsed. He then went to turn it on, as the signal for the Narnians, but it had been broken in Edmund's attempt to fend off his attacker. The pair looked at each other in worry, "oh shit." she mumbled.

They looked over the watchtower, to see Peter, Susan and Caspian struggling to open the castle gate. Susan was shouting at her brother.

"C'mon Edmund!" Talia shouted, as Edmund struggled to make his torch work.

"I'm trying!" he called back, banging the torch against his hand. Then it lit, finally it lit, and he turned to the girl smiling in shock- that smile, despite the circumstances Talia's heart couldn't help but flutter at the sight.

"Quick!"

He put his torch in position and flashed it, signaling to the Narnians to attack. The Narnians roared forward in a charge.

"Oh, thank Aslan!" Talia sighed in relief.

"What happened to you?" Edmund questioned, noticing the girl's bandaging.

"No time to explain!" she heaved, grabbing the boy's hand, and dragging him down the watch tower stairs. The pair heard the screams of the Narnians who now ran through the castle, killing any Telmarine they came across. Talia and Edmund joined the fight; they slid down the roof that stood above the archers, slamming into the soldiers, knocking them far down to the ground, off the balcony. But they only managed to knock off two- one each, and it was not long before the rest of the archers turned to shoot at them. Peter cried a warning, and Edmund grabbed Talia pulling her through a door that stood next to them. They fell awkwardly on top of one another, as the arrows from the archers continued to shoot at the wooden door.

Talia winced in pain, rolling over to get off Edmund.

"You alright?" he questioned.

"Never better." she replied, sarcastically, "You?"

"I'm splendid... let's go." he said, grabbing a hold of Talia's hand, pulling her down the stairway. "Through here!" he shouted, dragging the girl through a door, and locking it behind them, with his torch.

"Absolutely brilliant." Talia spoke, dragging out her words. The pair had ended up on the tiniest of balconies, with no escape, except to jump off, down a disastrously tall cliff or to open the door and face a dozen angry archers. Talia preferred the latter and prepared herself to unlock the door. "C'mon Edmund! We've no choice!" the Telmarines were now banging down the door themselves.

In the distance they heard the cry of Peter, "Fall back!" they turned to each other, worry plastered across their faces.

"No." Edmund muttered in disbelief.

The Telmarines broke through the door, swords raised at Talia and Edmund. Edmund reached over to grab Talia's hand, "Do you trust me?" he asked.

"Hardly." she smirked, looking at him confused before he stepped back to the edge of the watchtower. He wrapped her in his arms, and then he simply, leaned back, falling.

The Griffin had caught them.

Talia breathed a sigh of relief into Edmund's back as the Griffin carried them to safety, "You git!" she laughed, "I almost had a heart attack."

He turned his head to see her, "so you must trust me, huh?"

"Don't act all flattered, I trust far too easily." she smirked. Her smile suddenly dropped, as her adrenaline wore off, she clutched her bleeding side, feeling slightly faint.

"Not too long now." Edmund reassured, and the girl snuggled closer to the boy's back for further comfort.

They flew over the castle, and overheard the many Narnians screaming, "What's happened?" Talia asked, faintly.

"The bridge." Edmund sighed, "the bridge is closed."

"But-" the girl paused, and the realisation sunk in, Narnians had been shut in the castle, and a slaughter had erupted. She closed her eyes tight, not willing to witness any more death, and lent her head against Edmund's back.

The Griffin that carried Talia and Edmund, followed closely behind the remaining Narnians on their journey back to Aslan's How. It was an awful journey home. Each person, each animal was haunted by the cries of their friends, their family. And each wondered just exactly who they had left behind that night. Each searched for the faces of their friends in the remaining, and each shared a tear for those they had left behind. It was a harrowing journey, indeed, and of all, Peter certainly felt the worst.
