"Her Grandmother used to say that the more beautiful people were, the more dangerous they became. Eve thinks of this as she watches the Black family standing stiffly on the platform."

THE END OF SUMMER comes swiftly. When she got back to the house after shopping - as Marlene had to meet her mum and was staying for much later - she found the boys all in James and Sirius' room (Oh, had she forgotten to say? Sirius and James knocked down the wall that separate their rooms, and now had one giant room.) They were all, very clearly, drunk, and it seemed as the mousy Peter Pettigrew had joined them. She had sighed, picked up the empty bottles, and threw them in James' trash bin before leaving some hangover potions on his side table.

They didn't thank her in the morning, and it seemed as though they had all forgotten about her status as Prefect, including her parents, but - well, she was used to it. She wanted to be angry with them, but all she really felt was tired.

On the morning on September first, she woke up, hair still a bit damp from her shower the night before but legs freshly smooth. She pulled on her uniform - the skirt, and the shirt, though she left two buttons undone and didn't bothering tying her tie, just draped it round her neck - minus the robe, as it was still too hot. She debated for a while on shoe choice, as there wasn't any requirements there, and finally choose some soft black boots; the insides were tipped with steel, but no one would ever know - unless she kicked them, of course.

She debated for a while on jewelry. She knew that most of the girls had some, if not from a boyfriend (or girlfriend) then from a family member, but that had never been the case for Eve. Her brother had gotten the Heir to House Potter ring; he had been born a whole six minutes before her, and he wore it constantly.

Finally she grabbed some dangle blue rhinestones earrings. They hadn't been a gift, either; Eve had bought them for herself with Yule money. Then with a few hair ties shoved on her wrists, she was ready to go.

All too soon, they had arrived at King's Cross. Eve rolled her eyes as she shoved through the crowd; James and Sirius, the prats, were ahead of her and being openly goggled by almost every girl on their platform, and she knew them well enough to know they were enjoying the attention.

Before getting on, Eve carefully took the beautiful blue badge out of the top compartment of her trunk and pinned it to her shirt. It went well with her hair, and Eve only preened a little when fellow Ravenclaws regarded her with no small amount of awe.

"Bye, mum," Eve said, trying to give a real smile as she hugged her parents quickly. "Bye, dad."

"Have a good year, sweetie, and send letters," said Mia, patting her daughter's cheek.
