"Uncle aap bed pe so jaiye, hum sofe pe sote hain." Guddan suggested, as he let his head plop down on the pillow.

"Nehi, koi zarurat nehi hain. Tum so jao bed pe." Akshat refused, turning the other side.

"Dekhiye Uncle, aapka itna bada shareer us chote se sofe pe thik se fit nehi ho pata hain! Agar aapki haddiyan tut phut gayi toh?! Sab toh hume hi kahenge ki apne buddhe pati ka khayal bhi nehi rakha humne!" Guddan frowned, approaching him.

"Maine kaha na ki main sofe pe sounga, samajh nehi aata tumko?" Akshat asked, pissed off by her babbling. Why does she even carry a brain which she has no plans of using?! She thinks she got married to a seventy year old grandpa or what?

"Dekhiye, iss umar mein aapko humari baat maan leni chahiye. Warna kya pata, kalko agar aapke haddiyon mein crack aa gayi toh?! Nehi nehi! Agar aapki..." She trailed innocently.

"What's your problem?! Ek baar mein samajh nehi aata? Chup chap bed pe jake so jao, warna balcony mein jo jhula hain, waha sona padega!"

"Dhamki dete rehte hain humesha!....... Par hum bhi Guddan hain, mana kar hi chorenge!" She muttered, pouting.

1, 2, 3!

"What exactly are you trying to do?!" Akshat asked, baffled, as she started with her assaults on the couch.

"Aap bed pe *jump* nehi soyenge na? * jump* Toh hum *jump* tab tak yaha kudenge *jump* jab tak aap bed pe nehi jaate!" *jump* *jump* *jump*

"Stop it right now, you idiot!" She was literally hopping like a monkey, on his couch!

"As if I care?" She gave a derisive smile, fading away the moment she twisted her foot, her body plunging down to greet the floor, when his fingers went for her wrist and pulled her back, towards him.

Idiotic Monkey!
Khadoos Uncle!

"If only you had the courtesy to hear me out!" He shook his head.

"If listening to your lectures is what having courtesy is like, then I would not like to have one! Agar aap abhi ke abhi yaha se nehi utre, toh phir se kudenge!"

"Absolutely no, I don't want you to ruin my sofa, you stubborn head!"

"Woh toh hum hain!"

And there started the competition of shooting fire through eyes, the soul piercing glares following till their eyes pooled with water. It was their lenient hearts that complied, and they crawled to their respective places, or they could have just glared each other to death.

"Uncle, sone dijiye na! Kyun aise kharate maar rahe hain?" She mumbled lazily.

"It's not me! Jao aur dekho kaun darwaza khatkhata raha hain." He shrugged nonchalantly.

"Yeh bhi hum hi kare? Waise is umar mein toh uthne chalne mein takleef hi hoti hogi.." She trailed, dragging herself to the door, and unlocked the latch.

"Dadi, kaha le jaa rahi hain aap hume?" Guddan asked, as she dragged her out of the room.

"Guddan beta, aaj na karvachauth hain, is ghar mein teri pehli karvachauth! Isliye tujhe bulaya sargi ke rasam ke liye. Socha toh tha ki kal hi tujhe bata dungi, par bhul gayi.." Dadi replied, forwarding a morsel to her mouth.

"Dadi woh toh thik hain par..."

"Tu nehi rakhegi vrat?"

She found it not in her will to refuse her dear Dadi, who had woven naive expectations in their forlorn relationship. Though her stomach growled at the word fast, innocent wishes deserve to be coloured with acceptance. Her harboured hopes could not be complied with, yet the naivety shouldn't be let to fade. Softened by innocence, she closed her lips around the spoon.

"Maa ne kyun bulaya tha?" Akshat asked as she stepped in.

"Hume nehi pata." She shrugged, yawning.

"Kya nehi pata? Abhi abhi maa ke paas se aa rahi ho aur tumhe nehi pata?!" He asked in disbelief.

"Arey hum bhul gaye hain, hume sone dijiye! Bahot neend aa rahi hain hume!" She replied, smothering another yawn, and plopped down on the couch.

"Guddan, I asked why did she call you at this hour of the night?" He asked, receiving no sound from the latter.

"Guddan?!"

"Guddan!"

"So bhi gayi? Ajeebuddan kahi ki!" He shook his head at the sloth, snoring away to glory.

"Durga Di, woh maharani abhi tak uthi nehi kya?" Saraswati asked, glancing around.

"Saru, maharani kaun?" Lakshmi asked, clueless.

"Lakshmi Di main us Guddan ki baat kar rahi hu." Saraswati replied.

"Pata nehi Saru, lekin main bhi is ghar ki badi bahu hu! Us Guddan ko toh main raaste pe laakar hi chorungi!" Durga fisted her hand, darting with a glassful of chilled water to her room. Her visage with that serene smile pricked her eyes to the extent that she shot the water, at her slumbering state.

"Aag lagi hain aag! Itna thanda, hum toh jal hi jayenge! Bahot zyada aag hain!" Guddan sprang out of her couch, baffled.

"Toh akhir uth hi gayi aap, Maharani Ji! Yeh joh pani tumpe feka haina, tum isi layak ho! Yeh tumhara ghar nehi hain ki jab chahe utho, jo chahe karo! Is ghar ki badi bahu hu main, isliye izzat se baat toh tumhe mujhse karni hi padegi, kyunki yaha sirf meri chalti hain! Aur aath baje tak tum ghode bechke soti raho, yeh mujhe bilkul manzoor nehi, tumhare mummy papa jo nehi hu main. Pata nehi kya sikhaya hain tumhe tumhare maa baap ne! Is ghar mein rehna hain toh apne aapko sudharna shuru kar do, samjhi na?" Durga shooted her a look dripping with disgust, and turned on her heels.

"Durga ji, humare kamre mein aakar humse baatein kiye bina hi chali jayengi? Woh hume rishton ke bare mein zyada pata nehi na, isliye hume lagta tha ki bahu ko apne saas ke kamre mein ghusne ke liye izazat ki zarurat hoti hain, hum samajhte the ki saas aude mein badi hoti hain. Kitne jhalle haina hum, jo aapko galat samajh baithe? Aap is ghar ki bahu hain, rishton ka maryaada humse kaafi behtar jaanti hain, aap galat kaise ho sakti hain, Durga ji?" Guddan caught her wrist before she could walk away, resuming, "Rishtein ek taraf se nehi, dono taraf se nibhaaye jaate hain. Agar aap chahti hain ki hum aapko izzat dein, hala ki hum aapki saas hain aur aapko hume izzat dena chahiye, toh aap bhi izzat karne ki adat daal lijiye. Haan mushkil zaroor hain, jis ghar mein aap apni chalati phirti thi, usi ghar mein ab aapko apni saas ki sunni padegi.. Par kya kare, karna hi padega! Warna hum achhe ke saath toh bahot achhe hain, par buron ke saath..." She trailed meaningfully, letting go of her wrist.

Durga carried herself down the stairs, bowled over by her words. She just couldn't soak in the backfire of her taunts, that dripping face had shushed her dry, tricking her with her own principles. She took her too lightly, she wasn't that of a fool.
