FOURTY-FOUR

A GRINNING Crinx greeted me when I opened my eyes.

"Hello, you're awake!" he stated.

Wala manlang mababakas na pag-aalala sa boses niya. Parang masaya pa siya.

"Why are you happy?" paos kong tanong sa kaniya.

Hindi niya ako sinagot bagkus ay tumayo siya at ikinuha muna ako ng tubig. He helped me sit down before giving me the water. He also fixed the pillow on my back so that I can lay my back comfortably. He went back on his seat still with a grinning face.

After drinking the water while eyeing at him, my forehead scrunched.

"Something's wrong with you. What's that?" I asked him while narrowing my eyes.

"Wala naman po. I'm innocent like a baby," he said before pouting at me.

Napailing na lang ako sa sinabi niya then I remember everything that happened.

"Did I pass out? What happened? My baby?" nag-aalalang tanong ko.

My hands immediately settle down on my tummy. When I felt my baby's warmth, I relaxed a bit.

"Ito naman. Napakapraning. Relax ka lang. The baby is fine as well as his Momma. You're just too stressed out and well, according to the OB-GYN, you're lacking nutrients. Gaga ka, ba't kasi 'di ka kumakain?"

"I'm eating!" giit ko.

"Edi kung sana kumakain ka 'di sana wala ka rito. Ako pa niloko mo. Hampasin kita riyan e," masungit na sabi ni Crinx.

Kaunti na lang talaga at mapagkakamalan ko itong bakla. Who actually imagined that Crinx, my serious ex-boyfriend, will turn out to be very jolly? Hindi kaya bakla talaga 'to?

"Where's Yna? Where's Papa and Mama?" Pag-iiba ko ng usapan.

Doon bumalik ang nakakaloko niyang pagngiti sa akin. Parang ngiting aso.

"They're outside. They checked you a while ago and they went outside again to eat," tugon niya.

"E ba't ikaw ang bantay ko?"

"Ayaw mo? Arte ka? Just be thankful. The greatest Crinx Seryeo Sarel Fordebler is looking after you."

Ito na naman ang kahanginan niya.

"Ilang araw na akong walang malay?" tanong ko.

"You're just out for two hours. 'Wag kang O.A."

"Ba't ang sungit mo? Mayroon ka bang regla ngayon?" nagtatakang tanong ko sa kaniya.

"Well, for your information, when you passed out I was the one who caught you and brought you here in this room," pagkukuwento niya.

Matiim naman akong nakatitig sa kaniya at tumango. "Then?"

"Then, I was the one the doctor talked to, since she thought that I was your husband. Ayon naabutan ng asawa mo. The doctor told me to take care of you, to take care of my wife," sabi niya.

"And?"

"And after that, your loving husband was looking at me furiously. Para na akong babalatan ng buhay." Pagtatapos niya. "E kasalanan ko bang mas gwapo ako sa kaniya kaya mas napansin ako no'ng doktor?!" Himutok niya.

My heart jumped and a smile formed on my face. My heart hoped. He didn't leave? Was he angry? Was he jealous? Kahit na ano pa iyon, ang mahalaga, may nararamdaman sa akin siya kahit papaano.

"Hoy! 'Wag ka ngang ngumiti riyan! Babaetang ito! Can you listen to me?" sita ni Crinx. "Huwag ka ngumiti!" nakabusangot niyang sabi sa akin pero hindi parin maalis sa mukha ko ang malaking ngiti.
