FOURTY-SIX

"PLEASE wake up. I'm going to stay with you from now on. I promise . . ."

I tried to move my hand but something was blocking it. I moved a little and came to my senses. As I opened my eyes, another white wall kissed my eyesight. I groaned when it irritated my eyes. I closed my eyes to adjust for seconds and opened them again. Naglakbay ang aking mga mata sa buong kwarto. No doubt, I'm in the hospital once again.

I tried to move my hand but something is blocking it off and I look down to check at it. My breath was caught on the back of my throat when I saw Xydrien sleeping while facing me. Mahigpit ang hawak niya sa aking kamay. May kung anong init ang humaplos sa aking puso.

Habang nakatingin sa kaniya ay saka lang bumuhos sa akin ang nangyari bago ako mawalan ng malay. My free hand immediately fleed on my tummy.

Is my baby okay? Is our angel still here?

Fear crept my whole body as it began to share violently.

No, I can't lose our angel. We can't lose our angel. I can't forgive myself if something bad happens.

Tears pooled my eyes.

Kung sana kasi hindi ako nagpadalosdalos sa naging desisyon ko hindi to mangyayari.

"Hey, don't worry. You're both safe."

I was startled when he suddenly talked, making me jolt on the bed. I look at him with my eyes widen. Noong nakabawi ako sa pagkagulat ay nakahinga ako nang maluwag sa sinabi niya. Thank god. Our little angel is safe.

He just looked at me with pure amusement in his eyes and the corner of his mouth was pulled up slightly.

"Goodness, you startled me," I whispered.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it. You look like you're about to cry," he stated while carefully eyeing me.

I just pressed my lips together. Parang nagiging awkward talaga kapag kasama ko siya. I don't know what to say or what to do. My mind is covered with pure clouds. Nawawala ako sa huwestiyo. At saka kapag nakikita ko siya, nakakaramdam ako nang kaunting kirot.

He cleared his throat, catching my attention. I looked at him but he averted his eyes. I looked down and noticed that he's still holding my hand. Hindi ko na iyon sinabi pa sa kaniya dahil baka bitawan niya ang kamay ko.

Then when I looked back at his eyes, I noticed that he was looking at me like he wanted to ask something.

"May gusto ka bang sabihin?" tanong ko.

He hesitated for a while before clearing his throat.

"C-Can I touch your stomach?" he asked.

Napakurap ako nang paulit-ulit.

"H-Huh?" naka-awang ang labing tanong ko sa kaniya.

Maybe I heard it wrong. Did I fall that hard to make me hear things I shouldn't? Pati ba naman dito nag-iimagine ako? Eirysia—

"Can I touch your belly?" he asked quietly.

My mind stopped. Okay. I'm not imagining things. I swallowed the lump on my throat before nodding at him almost immediately. He was hesitant for a while and then he sighed before slowly attempting to touch my belly. I wanted to laugh at him since I can see that his hand is badly trembling.

Napailing nalang ako bago hinawakan ang kamay niya at inilapat ito sa aking hindi kalakihang tiyan. I watch his reaction as he was amused and bewildered at the same time. Para ba siyang nakahawak ng dyamante sa klase ng ekspresyon niya ngayon.

"It's so small . . ." he whispered with admiration placed on his voice.

While watching his reaction, I want to cry. Despite what he has done, I can't find any reason to be angry at him. Imbes na magalit ako sa kaniya dahil sa ginawa niya, parang mas minahal ko pa siya sa kabila ng lahat.
