(Year 1866)

Albert took off his hat as he entered their household. The first thing he did upon arriving is to find his younger sister, who is usually cooped up inside her room.

The maid in charge of her was standing outside the room. He internally sighed, knowing that she was ordered not to let the girl out of the room. The maid noticed his arrival and bowed in greeting upon seeing the young master and he nodded back in reply.

"You may go now. I'll take care of her."

"Understood, Albert-sama." she bowed again before leaving.

He knocked on the door twice and before opening it. There sat a young girl reading a book by the window, the sun's rays reflecting on her chestnut colored hair made it more vibrant looking.

"How are you feeling, Elise?"

Elise closed the book she was reading and smiled to her older brother, "I am fine, Albert-nii-sama."

The older Moriarty went to her side and his face turned to worry and concern.

"You're not having any attacks again, right?" he placed a gentle hand on her cheek and she leaned on his touch.

"I had a fit of coughing earlier but it's not that bad compared to my usual. You don't have to worry so much about me, Onii-sama."

The Moriarty's youngest daughter and flower, Elise Moriarty, born with weak lungs, was never allowed to step foot outside the mansion's property. All because she's sick and there's no cure for her disease, she wasn't allowed to go outside and mingle with the commoners and locals.

Her older brother William told her that the "trashes" might soil her beauty and grace, and she wasn't happy about his reason. She was a delicate flower that's carefully treated and protected, as what the Moriarty family would say.

Albert, on the other hand, wanted her to see the outside world. She could understand why she's not allowed to go out, but he sensed her loneliness and sadness whenever she would watch the world outside through the window. And he didn't want to see her make such a sad face.

Negotiating with his father about taking Elise out for a stroll was always a challenge for him. 2 out of 10 are the chances that his father would allow him to do it but the mother and his younger brother were completely against it. However, Elise could only look out from the carriage for it was part of the agreement that she's not allowed to get off the carriage when they are out in the streets. She didn't mind, as long as she can get away from the mansion and watch the outside world.

Thus, whenever the commoners and locals saw the youngest daughter of the Moriarty family in the carriage, it was treated as some sort of miracle, as if God had passed by and blessed them.

That is what she is to the eye of everyone.

Albert slightly closed the curtain of her window when the sun was too blinding now, "Louis's operation was a success, I hear."

"I'm glad he's all better now." Elise smiled before looking at the door sadly "I want to see the two of them but... mother and father wouldn't let me come near them after the operation. William-nii-sama was also saying that I shouldn't go to them because I need to remain in my room before the ball begins..."

He held her hand "Do you want to see them before the ball starts?"

Her emerald green eyes shone "Yes! Ah, but father-"

He smiled to assure her "I'll talk to him. Leave it to your older brother, all right?"
