TWENTY FIVE.

Every single day of February, Cara went down to the Shrieking Shack with a variety of snacks for Sirius. It got to the point where he felt close enough to her to ask for specific things rather than just what she could find, and she was returning from delivering him a chocolate frog down as well as a large portion of chips from the kitchen elves.

During her time in the shack it had began to hammer down with rain, leaving her no option but to run all the way back into school. It was pitch black outside, and she was lucky not to slip and break any bones.

By the time she reached the warmth of the school corridors, Lupin and Snape were waiting by the door to punish her for being out of school so late. Snape was wallowing in the moment, whereas Lupin had a more unreadable expression.

"Miss Fitch, care to explain what you were doing out so late?" Snape sneered.

"Oh, I dropped a book out of my window when I was reading and went out to get it." She lied through her teeth.

"And yet you don't appear to be holding one." He continued.

"I couldn't find it?" She sounded untrustworthy in her own lie, god alone knows how Snape fell for it.

"Let's deal with this in the morning, I'll walk her back to her tower." Lupin interjected, rescuing her from the pathetic excuse of a lie.

Snape eyed up the pair of them, undecided on whether or not to let them go off together. As much as he wanted to appear the moral hero, he remembered how long he had yearned for Lupin's job. If he wanted to dig himself further into a hole, so be it.

"Fine." He snapped. "But may I suggest no diversions or distractions. To the tower and that's all."

Once out of eyeshot, Lupin's eyes rolled to the back of his head. He made sure Snape was out of the way before walking off in the direction of the tower. His hand rested on her lower back, rubbing small circles with his thumb against her freezing body.

"Fucking hell Cara, you'll catch your death." He sighed, shrugging off his warm cardigan and wrapping it around her. "What were you doing out there?"

"I thought I saw a hippogriff in the forest so I went to check." She lied seamlessly once more. She was half impressed, half concerned at her ability to lie so believably.

"Idiot." He chuckled, before glancing behind them once more. "Come to my office."

He didn't have to ask her twice. They soon ended up back in his living quarters, with Remus forcing her to take a warm shower in his bathroom before she contracted pneumonia or something.

She slipped out of her sodden pyjamas and left them outside his bathroom like he had asked, so that he could dry them on the radiator for her whilst she showered. The hot water swallowed her as she fumbled through his items, finally finding something that she could use to wash her hair. The steam carried the homely scent of his shampoo and shower gel throughout the whole room, and she basked in the feeling.

Finally dragging herself away from the addictively relaxing shower, she wrapped the warm towel around her and headed into his room, the sound of music catching her ear. She swung the door open to see him laying on his sofa inelegantly as he flicked through a book.

"You're listening to Queen without me, you selfish bastard." She emerged, slapping his knee with the towel she was drying her hair with.

"I don't have all day to wait around for you, you know." He grinned cheekily and slammed his book shut, placing it down beside him.

"Not even for me?" She batted her eyelids innocently, straddling his waist and sitting down.

Cara knew what she was doing to him, and could feel it beneath her too. Watching his body tense and his eyes darken was her favourite sight in the world. He sat up sharply and roughly pulled her in to a kiss, his hands wrapped up in her wet hair. She caught his bottom lip between her teeth, and couldn't help but giggle as she heard him strain a groan.
