There are 5 extra chapters. They give us a glimpse of the married life of Zhan Zhao and Mo Yan. At the very end is a big surprise.

It started when Mahan got a strange book.
After doing a chore Mahan's wife felt her leg become numb. Remembering what the incantation on the strange book, Mahan recited it and his wife confirmed that the numbness was gone. Mahan memorized the incantations and hope to put it to good use.
Meanwhile, Mo Yan and Zhan Zhao were out on the streets. Everyone is aware he has gotten married but doesn't know much about Mo Yan. In their conversation as they eat some or plenty of steam buns, we learned that Mo Yan is more than three months pregnant. (Aww!)
After eating they walked around and met Wang Chao and Mahan. Mahan was telling Wang Chao about the incantation/spell for a toothache from his strange book. Mo Yan was curious. Mahan explained but none of the three understood him.
Later, Mahan lent the book to Mo Yan. Wang Chao who actually had a toothache pretended to be cured so that Mo Yan couldn't practice on him. Zhan Zhao also set in agreement with Mo Yan that she could never practice the book on him. Not to Bao Zheng and Gongsun Ce either. And if others come to her for advice, well, Zhan Zhao will stop it. Lovingly he reminded her she is carrying a child in her body already. At night, Mo Yan read the book.
