Sarah looks around her new home. Sarah moved in with Delilah because of how crowded the house was getting. Knowing today might actually be a good day Sarah smiles and drinks the rest of her coffee. "Hey are you ready to go?" Delilah asks as she walks into the kitchen; "Yeah let me just grab my bag" Sarah smiles and grabs her things. Once they get to work, Sarah and Delilah split up. After getting in her scrubs, Sarah goes down to the pit because she was supposed to be in control of Bailey's interns for the day.
"We haven't had a decent resident this week." Cristina says causing Sarah to roll her eyes "Oh the last two weren't that bad" Izzie says "Doesn't matter which resident we get. They suck" Alex says "They all sucked" George says "Yeah." Izzie agrees They've all walked to the door except for Meredith who is a few feet behind them to still putting on her yellow gown "I miss Dr. Bailey" George says.
The interns and Sarah move to outside where the ambulances come in. "Can we get back to the point?" Cristina asks "You had a point?" George questions "Yeah, which surgeon are we going to have to suck up to today?" Cristina says "That would be me!" Bailey says causing everyone except Sarah to turn around startled and find Dr. Bailey looking very pregnant but still dressed in normal everyday clothing standing behind them
"Dr. Bailey?" Cristina questions "I've been gone 2 weeks. 2 weeks! And you ran off 2 residents! I've got people phoning me at home, screaming telling me my interns are Rosemary's babies." Bailey says causing Sarah to smile and bite her lip. All the interns look slightly offended by that statement.
"Nobody wants you! Do you think I have time for this? I am pregnant! I'm supposed to be on bed rest. I'm supposed to be growing a human being. I'm supposed to be calm! Do I look calm to you? Did I raise you fools to be pariahs?" Bailey asks. George pushes past Meredith and Izzie and walks up right to Dr. Bailey who looks confused at George's behavior. He grabs her in a tight hug
George finally breaks the hug. He smiles at the other interns. Bailey shrugs off the hug. An ambulance can be heard approaching "Uh Yang, Karev, Grey, stay here and wait for the incoming case. Sarah you are in charge of those three. O'Malley page Addison Shepherd. *George nods and moves back into the hospital* Stevens get a wheelchair." Bailey says
"A wheelchair?" Izzie asks "A wheelchair." Bailey says George dashes back to Bailey while Izzie goes into the hospital "What shall I tell Dr. Montgomery-Shepherd?" George asks. As the ambulance moves to park Sarah rushes over motioning for the others to follow.
Once they open the doors there is a lady screaming with blood all over her. "Meredith take her inside" Sarah says moving the lady over, "Yang, Karev get ready" Sarah says while looking at the paramedic with her hand in the patients body. Once they get the patient into a trauma room Sarah starts checking James' heart rate
"How's his respiratory effort?" Burke asks "Absent breath sounds on the right side. Air bubbling on the side of the wound. He's shocky and getting a little cyanotic" Sarah says Burke moves to check the heart rate. After that he orders the nurse to do something then turns to the paramedic "And who are you?" Burke asks "Hannah. Hannah Davies" Hannah says "Hannah, why do you have your hand inside my patient?" Burke asks "I'd like to say for the record that I told her not to." the other paramedic says
"I tried to tamponade the wound with gauze and pressure but the only thing that would stop the bleeding was my hand. Every time I tried to move it he starts bleeding out" Hannah explains Burke checks the wound. "Can I take my hand out now?" Hannah asks "You don't stick your hand inside of a patient when you don't know how he was injured. You don't stick your hand inside of a patient at all." The other paramedic states "Yeah, I know that now!" Hannah yells "Out of my room" Burke says "She gets to stay?" The Paramedic questions
"She has her hand stuck inside my patient." Burke states Hannah smirks at the Paramedic guy who looks annoyed but he leaves the room "Nice. Thanks" Hannah says "Oh don't get happy. You have your finger on a major bleeder. Mr. Carlson is running out of time. The only thing that you've won is an all expense paid trip to the OR. *Burke turns to Sarah* Dr. Grey, prepare to transport her to the OR. *Burke looks to Everyone* And let's make this happen quickly people." Burke says to everyone.
Once in the OR with a large OR team Sarah can be seen prepping for the surgery on Mr. Carlson. Hannah is all scrubbed up with her hand still inside Mr. Carlson "How are you doing over there? " Sarah asks looking to Hannah "My hand is getting numb and I gotta tell ya, this whole insides are all bloody and squishy thing is so not good for my gag reflex. But I'm good. Is this ok? Me being in here like this" Hannah asks
"Once Dr. Burke scrubs in. He'll have you remove your hand and then you can go. *Hannah nods* And we'll fix Mr. Carlson" Sarah explains "Good. Cause I know how much medicine I know and it's just enough to never be allowed in an OR. It's my second week. As a paramedic. I got out of school about a month ago" Hannah says "I haven't been doing this that long either" Sarah says causing Hannah to sigh "Oh. Talk about on the job training huh?" Hannah says with a small smile.
"Okay everyone. I'm going to do a thoracotomy and Hannah here is going to pull her hand out. Dr. Grey is going to clamp the bleeder when we have more exposure. *Burke turns to Hannah* Ready?" Burke asks "More than ready" Hannah says. Burke then asks for a scalpel which is handed to him and he starts counting down. Karev then bust through the doors, "Dr. Burke? I need to speak with you" Karev says "I am in surgery, Karev" Burke states annoyed, "You wanna talk to me sir" Alex says. Dr. Burke sighs and goes over to speak with Alex.
Burke takes one step back into the OR and Alex half-closes the door watching "Hannah" Burke says "Yes, Dr. Burke?" Hannah questions looking up "What do you feel? Inside of Mr. Carlson. What is your hand touching?" Burke asks "What do you mean?" Hannah asks confused "Is your hand touching anything hard?" Burke asks "Hard?" Sarah questions, confusion laced in her voice. "Like metal?" Burke asks "Um, I don't know" Hannah says and attempts to move her hand
"Don't move your hand. Just tell me what you feel" Burke says "Dr. Burke, what's going on?" Sarah asks "Hannah?" Burke questions "Um, my finger tips are touching something...kinda hard. *She nods* Yeah, yeah definitely." Hannah says "Oh my god!" Milton yells out "Dr. Milton!" Burke yells "What? What's wrong?" Hannah asks panicking, "Hannah, I don't want you to move. Not your hand, not your body. Not an inch" Burke says
"Ok you should know your starting to scare me" Hannah says "Don't be scared. Everything is going to be fine. Dr. Grey could you ah..." He motions with his head for Sarah to come forward. Sarah leaves the table and walks up to him looking very confused
"I want you to walk out of this room. Walk, do not run. Go and tell the charge nurse that we have a code black." Burke says quietly "I'm sorry, code black?" Sarah questions
"Code black. Tell him that I am sure. And then tell him to call the bomb squad."
