"Just tell me" Derek said with his hopes crushed

"When Callie got in there she saw there was more damage than she thought. She has to find another way to do the surgery."

"How long will that take? She can't handle a surgery that long." Derek said worriedly

"She still has to figure out a way, I'll be there to watch her heart and make sure nothing goes wrong."

"If the surgery goes an hour too long close her up. She can't handle another hour of surgery, promise me you won't let Callie do more than she can handle."

"I promise" Maggie said with her hand still on Derek's shoulder.

Maggie got up and walked back into the OR after updating Derek.

"How'd it go?" Callie asked

"Fine, are you sure you can do this Callie?"

"Pierce, I'm sure. There was far more damage than I expected but I have it."

"If this surgery goes even a second over what it's supposed to, you close her up. Don't do more than she can handle."

"Pierce, I wouldn't have opened her up if I didn't know what I was doing. I get that you're worried but there's no need. Everything's fine." Callie said without taking her eyes off of what she was doing.

Maggie took a deep breathe and sat down, she watched the monitors and every ten minutes she would take her vitals herself just to make sure.

At one point in the surgery things started to go downhill, Meredith's vitals tanked and she started crashing.

"Callie what happened?"

"Nothing, I didn't do anything!"

Maggie started CPR and then a crash cart was brought to her. A nurse handed her the paddles but Maggie refused them.

"I can't shock her, her hearts too weak. Callie are there any bleeders?"

"No, everything's fine I don't know what the hell happened."

Maggie watched as Meredith kept crashing and she had to make a decision.

"Screw it, charge to 100"

Maggie shocked her but nothing happened, she tried again and nothing happened. Maggie knew that if she charged the paddles any higher it could cause damage to her heart but if she didn't Meredith would die.

"Charge to 200!" Maggie shouted

"Pierce she can't handle 2-"

"Callie I have this!" Maggie shouted

"Clear!"

Merediths heart rate began coming back and everyone sighed in relief.

"Close her up"

"Maggie if I close now it's like we never even did the surgery, there's no point."

"And if you keep going she'll die!"

"Then figure something out Pierce, I'm not closing until I finish what I started. I'm especially not closing her up knowing I just ruined her entire career!" Callie yelled

Everyone could see how worried Callie was knowing Meredith's whole surgical career was in her hands and so was her life.

The baby was doing good throughout the whole surgery so no one was that worried about her baby. Before the surgery Derek told Maggie to do whatever they could to save her. He could always make another baby with her but he couldn't find another Meredith.
