"What? What are you not telling me?" Derek asked with his arms crossed leaning against the doorway

The doctors stared at each other waiting for someone to tell him before Bailey stood up and walked over to him.

"Meredith signed a DNR after her surgery." Bailey told him

"She what? She hasn't even woken up yet, that's not possible." Derek said

"Callie had to bring her off of anesthesia during the surgery and before she went back under she asked to sign a DNR." Maggie said in a soft voice

"And you let her?!" Derek asked angrily

"Derek she-" Before Bailey could say anything Derek walked out and walked back into Meredith's room. 

Bailey, Maggie, and Owen followed Derek into Meredith's room, she still hadn't woken up and Derek sat next to her.

"Derek, are you going to let us talk now?" Callie asked

"Why would she sign it? Why wouldn't you do anything?" Derek asked

"We can't try to change her mind, we're her doctors."

"But you're also her friends! She trusted you and you let her practically sign her life away!" Derek yelled

"Can you keep it down? My head hurts" Meredith whispered with her eyes still closed

Derek looked over at her and then looked at Baily, Maggie, and Owen.

"Can you give us a minute?" Derek said in a lower voice

Bailey nodded and left only Derek and Meredith in the room. Derek looked over at her and held her hand, he sat up and kissed her forehead.

"We need to talk." Derek said

"I know, and I already know what it's about."

"Why would you sign a DNR Meredith?"

"I'm too tired, I'm in pain, and I don't want to be torn apart just to be alive. I don't want to be hanging on by a thread helpless instead of just being let go."

Derek sighed and held Meredith's hand tighter

"I get it, I just want you here and that's all."

"I know"

Derek placed a kiss on Meredith's lips and put her a strand of her hair behind her ear. He was on her left side holding her uninjured hand so he moved to he right side.

"How's your hand, any pain?" he asked as he slowly rested his hand on hers, careful not to hurt her

"It's fine, the incision is sore but other than that it's fine."

Derek smiled at her and wrapped his fingers around her hand as she slowly did the same.

"My mom's coming to visit in a couple days, is that ok?"

"Yea, that's fine."

(In the conference room before Derek walked in)

"Callie can I talk to you?" Maggie asked

"Yeah what's up?" Callie responded as she wrote down notes in Meredith's chart

"Umm... Meredith just signed a DNR."

"Wait what?!" Callie asked loudly in shock

Before Maggie could say anything Owen walked in

"Meredith signed a DNR?" he asked as he walked in

"She what?!" Bailey asked when she overheard Owen down the hall
