Long Story Short

The next day Callie had called Derek saying they needed to get to the hospital in a while Derek was immediately hit with a wave or worry as he looked at his phone and saw the text. He woke Meredith up and told her what Callie said and they both got dressed to go meet Callie.

"Are you nervous?" Derek asked while he was driving

"Not really, I want to be I know I should be but I'm just not nervous." Meredith replied

"I'm sure it'll be good news, so you shouldn't be nervous." Derek said as he moved his hand onto hers.

The drive to the hospital was quiet until they finally arrived and were met by Callie. She was standing near the entrance talking with a nurse.

"You guys made it! I'm gonna pull up the CT scans and I'll join you in a couple seconds." Callie said while hugging Meredith and then Derek

"Sounds good" Meredith replied with a quick smile

They walked to an exam room to view the CT scans and Meredith sat in a chair while Derek stood. Callie walked in a couple minutes later with an orange folder. She turned on the lights and began opening the folder.

"Have you had any more numbness in your hand since you came in?" Callie asked

"No, I haven't"

"That's a good sign." Callie replied

She put the scans on the viewing board and turned on the light which made Derek and Meredith both look at them closer.

"Wait, I don't see anything wrong." Derek noticed

"Yeah, are these older scans or something?" Meredith asked

"You don't see anything because the problem resolved itself overtime. It was a temporary complication from your surgery but if you continue with physical therapy a bit longer you won't have them anymore" Callie explained with a smile

"So there's nothing wrong anymore? She'll be fine? Her hand will be fine?" Derek asked looking over at Meredith

"Perfectly fine" Callie reassured him

Derek walked over to Callie and hugged her.

"Thank you Callie" He sighed in relief as he pulled away

Meredith laughed at how relieved he was and got up, she hugged Callie as well and walked out with Derek.

They both were walking out of the hospital when Richard and Arizona walked up to them.

"Sooooo?" Arizona asked

"How'd it go?" Richard continued

"Good, it was just a complication from the surgery but it solved on it's own." Meredith explained

"That's amazing!" Richard and Arizona said

"Thank you" Meredith said as Arizona pulled her into a hug

"We'll see you both tomorrow?" Richard asked as they walked away

"See you" Derek replied

Soon after Meredith and Derek left Owen walked up to Richard and asked

"So is Grey coming back to work?"

"It appears she is."

"That's great news. Thanks Richard" Owen said as he patted Richards back and walked away

As Derek opened the door for Meredith he wondered why she wasn't more excited or happier, she had almost no reaction and he was extremely relieved.
