Chapter Eleven

Asher had practically told Rebekah everything, leaving out the 'I love you' part, as the twins often did. Surprisingly, the original was quite calm, naturally wanting Asher to meet the rest of the family that lived in the Mikaelson compound.Asher was willing, but wanted to do it tomorrow.
"Rebekah, have you see—" Elijah Mikaelson cut himself off as he saw Asher sitting beside Rebekah on the bed. "I'm sorry. I didn't know my sister had company."
Asher jumped up, eager to finally talk to Elijah, for he was often compared to him. He held out his hand, which Elijah took, "I'm Asher. I've heard a lot about you."
Elijah glanced at Rebekah and nodded. "Interesting," he drawled out slowly, "I've heard nothing about you."
Asher took an awkward and uncomfortable step back. Even being dead, Elijah could still kill him. It's better to be safe than sorry. "That's my fault. I asked her not to."
Elijah didn't reply, only staring, causing an awkward silence.
"Right. You needed Rebekah for something so I'll just—" Asher stepped past Elijah and left the room.
As he turned around in the hall, he was startled by someone clearing their throat. Dammit, Asher thought. He hadn't pulled his invisibility up fast enough. Thankfully, when he turned around it was only Klaus.
"What were you doing in Rebekah's room?" Klaus asked, a protective edge to his voice.
"Her and Elijah were talking about you. I was just seeing if they had heard anything about Athens," Asher lied in a whisper, knowing the two immortals in the next room had super-hearing.
Klaus nodded, believing Asher's lie. "Still being secretive, I see," Klaus mumbled, thinking of Athens.
Asher was confused, "What are you on about?"
Klaus chuckled shortly, "Athens told me her secret, that she's a demon, slave to the underworld. But, now that I'm thinking about it, she didn't mention anything about you."
"Did she now?" Athens asked, not really expecting that. His sister was never one to truly think things through, and here was a prime example. "And where is she at?" Klaus was about to answer, saying she disappeared again, when Asher scrunched up his face in pain, right before he too disappeared.
——
"Dammit, Hades. Hell was that for?" Asher gasped, lading face first on the floors of the underworld. The god sat on the floor, leaning against the base of one of his many thrones.
Hades looked toward him, amused. "I didn't think you would pull it off." He smiled, a very misleading smile. "I don't think that changes anything though, considering Athens is pretty tied up right now."
Asher, now standing, glared at Hades, "What did you do to my sister?"
The immortal smirked, "which sister? Because, I assure you, Willow is perfectly fine."
"I don't care about Willow, she means nothing to me," Asher snapped. "Pulling Athens out of the race is cheating. Your breaking your own rules."
Hades laughed, the ground seeming to shake as he did so. "There are no rules, not here. You know, when I said I would send you back to earth, I had every intention of ending your life. Right then and there."
"But you wanted to watch. Entertainment purposes," Asher guessed.
"No, your life is boring as heaven," Hades quickly denied. Asher noted how he wasn't speaking about Athens as well, saying your life not your lives. A good thing you would think, but he is the god of the underworld— death. When he has something up his sleeve, it's never good.
"I wanted to see you fail," Hades nodded, standing and stepping closer to Asher. "Something that may not have occurred to you, Asher, is that I only need one original's soul."
Kol and Finn, already being dead were of no use to Hades, Asher knew this. He also knew that Elijah and his noble mentality made him ineligible for soul snatching. Leaving only Niklaus, now that Rebekah had been 'saved'.
"When is Athens?" Asher demanded again.
Hades feigned sympathy, "probably beaten to a pulp. She met with Willow, not me, and I'm the nice one."
Asher looked up, disbelieving. "She'll get Niklaus to say it. And when she does, she'll laugh in your face."
Hades completely ignored Asher, spinning on his heel and walking away from his once loyal acolyte. Flames licked at his heels as he dragged his bi-dent across the stone, creating small sparks. "I wonder what I'll do if Athens screws up my plans. Certainly her second death will be more exciting."
