Chapter Sixteen

Honestly, it had all been a blur as soon Athens closed her eyes, saying she loved him. And Klaus didn't how he could suddenly touch Athens but, he immediately fed her his blood. Some hope returning when her heartbeat sped up to an even pace.It had been a blur as he sped the back to the compound, kicking the door open with an extra amount of force necessary. Maybe he would had had it in him to care if Athens had actually woken up.
"Asher!" He got frustrated when Asher didn't immediately appear in front of him, "Asher!"
Klaus sat on the couch, an unconscious Athens in his arms. He could finally touch her, and she wasn't even awake to feel it. The many times he had fantasized about this, her being in some in-between death state was not a scenario.
Even though all Klaus had only called Asher, the whole family came down, eyes widening at the sight of Klaus crying.
Asher pushed his way to the front, feeling his sister forehead. She was way colder than two days ago when she had a fever, too cold. "You can touch her, now? How?" Asher asked, looking up at him.
Klaus shook his head, not really knowing the answer. "Just- why isn't she waking up? I gave her my blood, she should be fine," Klaus said, his voice getting louder. The scratches were still on her face and they didn't show any sigh of giving away.
Asher sent Rebekah a look, and she got the hint. She ushered Elijah and Freya out of the room, mumbling a small, "I'm sorry," on her way out.
"I don't know," Asher sighed. He ran a hand through his hair, an idea coming to mind. "Maybe she just needs some time. This is demon venom, not a werewolf bite, it's more potent."
Klaus ran his fingers through Athens' hair. It was as soft as he'd imagined. "Ok," he whispered. "Can you get Freya? A spell to check her over won't hurt."
Before Asher even made it two steps, Freya walked back in, making him assume Rebekah had been eavesdropping. "Hi, I'm Freya. You must be Asher, Rebekah's boyfriend."
He had never been called her boyfriend before, but he liked the sound of it. "Yeah. And that's my sister Athens," he gestured to where she was leaning against Klaus on the couch. "She had demon venom in her system, Klaus cured her, but she's not waking up."
Freya nodded and kneeled beside the couch. First, she checked felt her forehead, then she felt her pulse. Both were normal. The boys watched worriedly as Freya did a spell under her breath.
Once finished, she looked between Asher and Klaus with a smile on her face. "She is completely fine," Freya assured, and the two let out a sigh of relief.
"Why isn't she waking up?" Klaus demanded.
Freya stood, brushing the dirt from the courtyard off her jeans. "She's asleep."
Well, that made a lot of sense.
Klaus bit back a smile at his own stupidity. "Thank you, Freya."
——
Klaus had waited for Athens to wake up for hours. He saw her wounds slowly patch themselves up, smiling a bit when her face returned back to normal.
He had carried her to his room and laid her on the bed. He was initially going to leave her to sleep, but he could touch her now. Hesitantly, her laid down next to her, watching excitedly as he intertwined their fingers.
That was three hours ago.
And now, he finally felt her squeezing his hand back. "Athens?" he whispered, lulling his head to the side so he could see her better. All he got from her was some incoherent mumbling.
Her eyes fluttered open and she had a look of confusion on her face. "Hey," Klaus said, focusing her attention on him.
"Hey," she smiled back, yet to notice their intertwined hands. "What happened?"
Klaus ignored her question, firing one of his own, "Are you okay?" She nodded, now even more confused on how that was. "Good. That's all that mattered to me."
Klaus absentmindedly began tracing shapes on her hand. She snapped her attention to it, parting her lips in surprise at them touching. "That happened as soon as you passed out," he explained, following her gaze. "The one side affect that I'm happy about."
Athens knew what that meant he said, even if he didn't, and it brought a smile to her face. "I guess you're redeemed, then. I am officially your savior," she said, looking back up to him.
The silence the fell over them was uncomfortable, and she knew exactly what he was going ask. "I meant it. I would never lie about that, and I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner."
The smile that came onto his face was the cutest smile she had seen from him yet. He looked to be in thought for a moment, before he gently cupped her face and kissed her. And after the initial shock wore off, she kissed him back just as passionately.
She pulled back and pressed their foreheads together, breathing heavily. "I love you," she whispered, looking in to his blue eyes.
"And I love you."
