Joanna Jane Potter is an angel. She has a full heart and beautiful soul. But one thing that made people turn up their nose when hearing her name is her clingyness. See JJ loves her brother; to her, he is her best friend, and favourite person in the world. He is her world. And sure, maybe she does have separation anxiety with her family, and needs to be around them to feel safe, but why is that a problem? Some may even say she is scared to be alone, but JJ will just say why be alone when you can be with your family. James didn't find much problem with this either, JJ was his best friend, and he adored having a younger sister he could protect.

But when Sirius Black runs away from home and joins the Potter family, JJ doesn't have her best friend to hang out with all the time, as he has found his own. JJ's parents think this is a good thing, she can finally learn some independence, and make friends aside from her brother. But when a fight between the Potter siblings leaves JJ missing, the Potters can't help but beat themselves up for pushing her.

Returning from an unknown place, JJ is different. She lacks her angelic childishness that made her... her. Noticing the behaviour change, Remus Lupin takes it upon himself to bring back the old JJ, who unknowingly helped him heal his inner child that was wronged by the bite. So really he is just repaying the favour.
