Emily's POV

"Emily!" My sister said from the back seat.

I snapped my head back to see what she wanted. My auburn hair went flying in front of my face. I quickly swatted it back to look at my sister.

"I want my dolly back!" She whined.

"Alyssa, Kelly said you couldn't have it back until we get to the new house." I said, mentioning the new house made my stomach turn.

"But I want it now!" She yelled.

"Will you please tell her to be quiet." Kelly said sternly.

"Yes ma'am." I turn back to my seven year old sister.

"Alyssa we need to be quiet now, you will get your doll back later, understood?" I gave her a warning look and sneakily motioned my hand towards Kelly.

Thankfully my sister got the note and calmed down.

After a long and tense ride, we finally reached the new foster home. I opened the passenger door and got out. Knowing my sisters first question would be about her toys, I go straight to the trunk. I knew better then to bring more then a suit case of clothes. Every time we reached a new foster house we were almost immediately taken to a new home. My sister however wanted to take any toy she saw, dolls were her absolute favorite. My sister hopped out of the car and ran up to me.

"Can I please have my dolly now?" She pleaded.

I opened up her backpack and nodded my head. She squealed and started digging through her bag trying to find her doll.

"Just put your clothes back in when you're done." I told her, now walking up to the front door.

Kelly was already inside talking to our new foster parents. I walked inside putting on my best face. With all the failed homes in the past I always managed a little bit of hope that this might just be the forever family. So many let downs had really begun to tarnish it. If we are lucky we might be here for around a year, but even that was unlikely. Foster care is very shifty, your life is in the hands of strangers. It's a scary thought so I try to not think about it.

Kelly motioned for me to come and meet them. I walked over putting my hand out for them to shake. The woman shook my hand followed by the man. The woman had short brown hair, about shoulder length. Her eyes were pale blue and her makeup was very visible, it was an attempt just not a good one. The man had balding dirty blonde hair, it reminded me of the sand at the coast. His thinning hair was gelled and parted to the side. Matching the brown in his hair his eyes were a dark caramel.

All in all they looked like a picture perfect, traditional family. It was strange to think of them as a foster family rather than a nice couple settled down with a few kiddies running around. Most foster homes I'd been too were just well off enough to keep us. Only in it for the money, those were always difficult to live in. I could only hope they were kind to us, if not for me for my sister's sake. We haven't had a good start to life but she was still sweet and innocent. You can only stomach so many bad homes before you just give up, who knows how many more she had left.

Alyssa came running through the door. She ran to me and started tugging at my hand.

"Sissy I got to pee!" She whisper yelled.

"Okay, okay just a sec." I looked at our new 'parents'. "Um... my sister needs to use the bathroom. Could you tell me where one is?" I asked.

"There is one down the hall and to the right." The women said smiling at me.
