Mitch felt something he hadn't felt in a long time. He felt the feeling of nostalgia. The feeling of hope, of something familiar. He used to feel this with the pack when they were doing some pack bonding at Derek's loft.

He used to feel this when he was with his dad, Melissa, and Scott, with his family. He used to feel this when he woke up in bed next to Katrina. It had been so long since he felt anything other than anger and pain.

Not physical pain, no. It was the sort of numbing pain you felt when you lost someone so important to you that you just can't focus on any other person or thing and you become blind with rage and revenge trying to get them, trying to see them just one last time.

He also hadn't felt this numbing pain and blinding anger and rage in a while. That was thanks to Annika. She had slowly torn down the walls he had built up so high to protect himself from any other pain and loss that could get to him.

He built them up so high because he knew that if he felt another heartbreak like Katrina's or Allison's then he wouldn't make. He couldn't handle another heartbreak like that. He wouldn't survive. But he would never tell anyone that, not even Annika.

The others didn't know just how close Stiles and Allison had been. If they weren't with Scott or Lydia then they were with each other. They were best friends and told each other a lot. So when Stiles was possessed and practically killed Allison that was the first of many walls he had built by then.

When Katrina rolled around his walls weren't very high but there was still quite a few. A lot had happened by the time they all went to college. She got past his walls but it wasn't hard because she was hard to keep out.

She was always very persistent but he loved her all the same. Then she died too. By the time Irene got to him his walls were built so high and so thick they were impossible to break. He promised he wouldn't let anyone in. He couldn't do it again.

He tried. He tried so hard to keep Annika out, he practically fought her out of his heart but she still manged to find a crack and break right in. She broke down each wall and now she was practically his anchor.

She was one of the only people who could calm him down when he was mad. She could tell when something was bothering him. She was there for him when he needed her and he was there for her.

He tried to be the best boyfriend he could be. It was hard sometimes, with all his damage but she knew he tried and she was grateful. A part of Stiles died with Allison. A part of both Stiles and Mitch died with Katrina. If Annika wasn't in his life anymore, a part of Mitch would die with her.

Mitch and Annika have been together for almost a year and right now Mitch was laying next to Annika in his bed after the meeting with the pack thinking about all that they have been through together.

Mitch knew it was probably too soon to be thinking about spending the rest of his life with someone who he had only been with for not even a year but he couldn't help but think that Annika was the one who has kept him afloat.

She is the one who has been there during his most toughest time, hell she'd met him during his toughest time. He couldn't understand why someone like her was still with someone like him. He didn't know that Annika had felt the same.

He didn't know that even though Annika hid it well, he had met her in one of her toughest times as well. She was out to avenge her family's death and didn't need anyone there. They didn't realize that they had become someone they relied on to each other.

He supported her through her tough times and guided her towards the light at the end of the damn tunnel. She had supported him through his tough times and got him out of the hole he was in.

They had become the one person they needed the most for each other and neither of them knew it. The thought of marriage had also crossed Annika's mind once or twice and even though she wouldn't say it out loud, she wouldn't be opposed to the idea.

Mitch couldn't help but feel as though he was going to lose another person. He didn't want to feel the loss and the pain again. He couldn't. He built his walls so high and so thick each time because he couldn't afford to be someone with something to lose.

But it didn't matter because he was someone with something to lose. So with Annika laying beside him, her arms wrapped around his waist, he couldn't help but think that he was always someone with something to lose.

Whether it was the pack or his dad or Katrina or Annika, he always had someone he might lose. So he would do anything and everything in his power to make sure he didn't lose any of them even if it cost him his life because if he lost them he won't survive.

As Mitch closed his eyes, succumbing to the sleep he so desperately needed, he thought back to the memories with his mom and the pack and his dad, Katrina, Annika. He thought about it all and thought

'I am going to kill Ronnie for threatening my town and my family.'
