Varian's POV:
When i opened my eyes i was hit with a sudden headache
"Was i dreaming or did that actually just happen?" i asked, not really directed at anyone.
"You're awake!" Ellie ran over to me.
The was when i realized i was back in the Demanitus chamber, laying up against my bag.
"Hi" i said as she gave me a hug, i still felt exhausted
"Are you okay!?" she asked.
i gave her a small smile and wiped the tears i noticed running down her face.
"i'm fine, Love"
she gave a small laugh
"We need to stop passing out on eachother" she said.
"no promises" i joked.
"Varian" a familiar voice said.
"Mom.."
She came and sat beside me "I'm so sorry..."
"Hey, Mom, it's okay, you're free now.."
"Varian, you remember what i told you... i can't survive outside of the library as myself" she said.
does that mean-
"What do you mean?" i asked.
"I'll have to go soon, i just wanted to say goodbye to you one last time"
"Mom..."
"I'm so proud of who you've become, Varian, and i'm glad i was able to see you again, if only for a minute"
after everything to get her back and i'm losing her again already?
"Just don't go kidnapping more queens, Mister" she said, almost jokingly.
"Oh, you don't have to worry about that" i told her "But.. you aren't upset?"
"A little but... nobody's perfect, i've done not so great things too because of my emotions, what's important is that you've learned from it"
"how did you-"
"Ellie explained in a little more detail while you were out"
i looked over at her
"i would have waited to let you explain but she was freaking out thinking it was her fault so i kinda had to calm her down" she explained to me.
then i looked back at Mom
"Does this mean that you won't be able to come say goodbye to Dad?" i asked her.
"unfortunately..." she said "just be sure to tell him i said hello and i'm sorry i couldn't come back to see him in person"
"i will"
"and Ellie" she turned her attention over to her "take care of my son for me alright? make sure he doesn't get into to much trouble"
"Mom!" i said with a small laugh.
"i already do that on a daily basis Mrs. Ritter, you don't have to worry" Ellie said jokingly.
Then mom handed the music box back to me
I wound it up again.
she gave me a sweet smile
Look to the stars
My darling baby boy
i laughed a little
Life is strange and vast
Filled with wonders and joys
her face lit up
"You remembered the words" she said
i nodded
face each new sun
with eyes clear and true
unafraid of the unknown
because i'll face it all with you
then she pulled me into a hug
"now i'll have to miss you all over again" i said with a laugh as i held back tears
"i'll always be with you, Varian" she said, putting a hand over my chest "Remember that, i love you so much.."
"I love you too, Mom"
she smiled again and closed her eyes
and just like that she was gone...
completely disappeared into the air...
then Ellie handed me something "she wanted you to have this..."
a journal like hers
i smiled and put it in my bag
"let's go home..."
she nodded and helped me to my feet
