I think I just saw a ghost!

January 20th, 2013 Age: 8

When I was eight I hated, I mean hated road trips. Especially across the United States of America.

I was sitting in the back seat of our white minivan, bored out of my mind. My sister, Julie was twelve at the time and she thought that she was the coolest person in the world. She was reading one of the Magic Tree House books, it was the one with Jack and Annie surfing on the cover.

My parents at the time were looking in our house to see if we missed anything before we leave to live in Califonia for the rest of my life.

I didn't want to move at the time, either did my sister Julie, but my dad got a job out in California that paid more than living here in Texas where he got a lower-paying job. I guess my parents didn't think that it would destroy us, but it did.

The problem is that I was going to miss my friends that I have here in Texas. I would miss the weather, and most of all I would miss my grandparents that lived two streets down from where I lived in Texas.

My dad gets into the driver's side of the car. He buckles himself then he looks at Julie and me through the rearview mirror. "Look kids, I know that this is a big change, but you both will meet new people, and get new friends! Isn't that exciting!?" dad said.

Julie and I both sighed and we buckled ourselves and either of us responded back to our dad.

My mom gets into the passenger's side of the car. She first looks at herself in the mirror of the car, then she looks back at me and my sister. "Does everyone have everything before we leave?"

Julie doesn't even look at my mom as she just stares at her dumb book. I roll my eyes, "Yeah, I-we got everything."

My mom smiles at me. "Hey, everything is going to be okay, just you wait, you all will love our new house and your new room!"

Before I knew it my dad was waking me up from the car. "Hey, we're here. Mom and Julie are in the new house." dad said.

I unblocked myself and got out of the car. I looked at the new house that I am now going to live in. The house is big, it looked like a two-story house, it had a small green lawn, a nice pathway to the front door, the house is yellow with the door red.

The house looked nice, it didn't look like a haunted house like how I imagined it.

I walked in with my dad. The first thing I saw was the big kitchen, the family room, and the stairs to my new room.

I ran up the stairs and I looked through all the bedrooms. Julie was already unpacking in one room, my mom was unpacking in the other so there was only one more room left and I guess that's mine.

I opened the door to my new room to see that the walls are pink, bright pink and the room is smaller than my sister's room.

My mom leans on the door frame as I am checking out my room. "How do you like your new room?"

I didn't know what to say. I didn't like it, first of all, an eight-year-old boy would never be fond of a bright pink room and I have a big window that looks out to our new neighbor's window. "It's...fine," I say softly.

"Great, c'mon let's go help dad get all of our stuff." Mom said as she was leaving to go help my dad.

Before I left I looked out my new window. I glance to see a girl that looked about my age staring at me from my window as if she has never seen another person before in her entire life.

I stare back at the girl. The girl has a yellow flower in her hair, my guess it is a sunflower. Her hair is dark brown and curly, while she is wearing a yellow dress.

I don't know what to do, so I wave back at the girl awkwardly, but the weird thing is that she just stares back at me.

"Travis, come and help!" Julie yells at me.

I look at Julie and I glare at her, but when I look back at the girl with the yellow flower she is gone.

I start to run down the stairs yelling, "Mom, mom! We live next to a haunted house, I think I just saw a ghost!"
