After Everly and I kissed things have been weird between us. I mean, she stopped tutoring me and she hasn't spoken to me ever since the play happened.
We won the last time that we had a mathletes tournament which was surprisingly fun to be in, and my book club was also fun.
I don't need to be on the mathletes team anymore, or the drama club, and I don't need to be in the book club.
So my life has been slow.
Before school starts, I appearance outside my window to see Everly drawing something beautiful. It appeared to look like she was drawing a person.
I wanted to speak to her, but I couldn't. I didn't know what to say to her.
I would say to her that I kinda like you ever since we kinda kissed when we were playing Romeo and Juliet.
Instead, I decide not to and I head down the stairs, I go into the kitchen and I get a red apple.
My mom for once wasn't on the phone with someone, she was actually reading a book with a cup of coffee with her favorite mug that says, "MORE COFFEE PLEASE" with one of those 2012 mustaches next to it. Gosh, she loves that cup way too much.
I hugged my mom and I kissed her forehead. "I'm going to walk to school today."
My mom looked up from her book, "Okay, have a nice day then."
I smiled, "Love you!" then I left out of the front door.
I started to walk through that same way, which is in the field where the old home is. When I finally get there I see a girl sitting on the ground near the old tiny house. That girl is Everly. I can tell by what she is wearing, she is wearing a tie-dye shirt with jeans and that necklace that I gave her.
Out of my control, I sit down next to her.
Before I can say something she says, "Hey, Allen."
"Hey, school starts in fifteen minutes, why aren't you there?" I asked.
I could tell that Everly is upset, she starts to cry. "It's just, I can't go to school..."
"Why not?"
Tears are dripping down her face, "I-I-just can't. You wouldn't understand what's going on in my life. And you're going to be late for school."
I put my hand on her shoulder. "I can try to understand."
She scoffs, "But that doesn't mean that you will understand." she stands up and leaves.
I sit there for a while. Thinking what could possibly be that would make her so upset that she couldn't express it towards me.
. . . . . . .
"So, that girl that was in your room a few months ago, are you two dating yet?" Julie said as I had her on Facetime.
"What, no! Of course not, I mean that's Everly that lives next door. I mean, why can't a guy and a girl just be pals, buddies, good friends, and not be attracted to them romantically? I mean, it's-its so stupid." I said.
Julie started to laugh.
I pulled my eyebrows together. "What is so funny?"
"Oh, it's just the fact that you are trying to hide that fact that you do really like her. I saw that way that you kissed her at the play. That kiss didn't seem like a 'friendly kiss' Travis."
I rolled my eyes, "Okay, yeah maybe I do have feelings for her, but it's friendly feelings! And plus she hates me anyway."
Julie sighed. "How do you know that she hates you?"
"Because when ever I try to help her she gets mad at me."
"Have you ever thought, Travis that maybe-just maybe, she does not know how to ask for help or she doesn't want it."
For once Julie wasn't being a bitch.
I smiled, "thanks Julie for not being a bitch."
"Thanks Travis for not being an asshole!" then she hung up on me.
I chuckled softly as I got dressed in my bathing suit and I was looking everwhere for my surfboard, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I looked in my car and it wsn't there, I looked under my bed it wasn't there, I looked everywhere that you could possibly think of and I couldn't find it.
Then I remembered that I left my surfboard at the beach, the night that I went to that party and when Everly went to the hospital. Ugh, I must have just left it and frogot all about it. I signed, and I became sad.
That was my first ever surfboard that Bradley gave to me, but now it's probably long gone with a different person using my board.
I log on to my computer and I go on Amzon and Esty to search for a new surfboard, but as I was looking through all of the surfboards that are online I didn't have enough money to buy one.
. . . . . . . . . .
The next Friday at school I go and try to find Everly at lunch.
I look everwhere, but then I find her under a beautiful tree with her lunch by her side. I sit down next to her. "Hey." I say.
Everly looks ta me. "Hey, Travis."
I couldn't think of what to say so I get out a browine from my lunch. "Do you want a browine?"
Everly shakes her head. "No thanks, prom is coming up."
"Yeah, are you going to go with anyone?" I asked.
She stared to smile. "Yeah, I'm going with Jim, he just asked me last week."
My smile started to turn into a frown. I wanted to ask Everly out, I wasn't expecting Jim asking Everly to go with him to prom. I try to sound happy for her, "That is great!" it wasn't.
