Darryl's POV

*RING*

It was only the first period of the day, it felt like forever. I got up and grabbed my stuff and headed out the door. I checked my schedule to see what I had next, I had math next. I walked up the stairs and to my locker, locker 614. I put away my English notebook and grabbed my math notebook, then headed to my class. As I arrived, I noticed that I had another class with Nick as I saw him sitting in the back right corner, alongside Karl. I would sit by them but the seats next to them were taken, so I just took a seat in the middle back.

We were only ten minutes into class and I did, I really did try focusing on what the teacher was saying, but Nick's and Karl's giggling distracted me. I guess whatever they were talking about was so funny or they were just close in that way where everything seemed funny.

Then again, I'd catch myself not being able to focus, it was my first day and I wanted to do my best. I wasn't really upset with them, because they seemed to be close and that was a good thing. But It was weird, Karl appeared out of nowhere and now Nick and Karl were best friends.

"Karl and Nick, I will not give you another warning, calm down please and focus." Our teacher said sternly.

They still giggled to themselves but finally calmed down after a while.

The class had ended and I was already walking out with an assignment on the first day. I went up the stairs to reach my locker to grab a notebook because that's what they said was required for cooking class. I walked into the cooking classroom and I could smell fresh dough, it was a pleasant smell.

I saw a boy sitting alone in the front of the classroom. He had dark brown eyes and even darker brown hair. His eyes were focused straight ahead, probably zoned out. He was tan and wearing a plain dark grey hat to which my surprise, hasn't gotten in trouble with yet. So since I had no friends in this class, I thought I should make some.

I walked over to him and asked "Hi, is it alright if I sit next to you?" just in case he had a friend he was waiting for.

"Yeah, sure," He said in a nice tone but with a straight face.

"I'm Darryl"

"I'm Alexis, but you can call me Alex."

"It's nice to meet you!"

"It's nice to meet you, too," He said, warming up to me a little.

"What made you want to be in cooking class?" He said smiling, trying to make small talk.

"Oh, well, I really like to bake and cook. Kinda my thing since I was little"

"Oh, nice," He said in the nicest way he could but he was kinda short with me.

"What brings you here?" I asked, desperately trying to keep the conversation going so it wasn't awkward, or even better, make a new friend on the way.

"Well, actually, I'm pretty sh*tty at cooking" He kinda laughed at himself, although I flinched at his way of words.

"What?" He asked innocently, probably questioning why I flinched.

"Oh...I don't really like swearing, sorry," I mumbled and looked down in embarrassment because he'd probably laugh at me.
