While magic is possible in this world it had no part in the Beastskin romance and so was not mentioned as part of the plot since Beastskins are magic incompatible.
Sooooo unfair. I want a refund on my role. I would have settled for being a small villain if I could do magic. I mean come on it's magic.
As I continue to mutter to myself in my head, I reach the edge of the cropping and freeze. The leader stares at the burning tree and curses before bringing the radio to his mouth.
"One of the Yan Group's guards is here and taking us out." The leader says.
"Ignore them, get in the house and find the madam." The commanding voice demands its tone getting higher at the end of the sentence.
I look back at the tree worried that the fire would spread and cause serious damage only to watch as it started to fade before snuffing out completely. Oh, good it's not self-sustaining.
There is a sudden flash at the door before an image of breaking glass appears over the door. The leader guy gestures the other two in as he remains still scanning the area. The way he was looking meant it was impossible for me to scamper back to the roof. On the other side of the house a similar glow appears, and three more people enter the house with the other two of that group remaining out the front. As I consider my options for a distraction to allow me to get back into the house the dots marking the enemies guarding the front of the house shake on the spot and then snuff out with a muffled yelp.
At the sound leader guy spins to face the house and I take advantage to leap towards him. At the moment right before impact I swing my legs forward so that I slam into him feet first he is propelled forward to hit the wall of the house and I flip to land so that when he bounces back, I slam a kick into his side and second into his neck. When he staggers and twists to face me, I leap forward and grab his swinging left arm and twist tossing him over my shoulder and onto the ground. Bouncing back, I prepare to flip up and kick down at him when a fine needle shoots past me and hits the guys throat.
"Young Master, I believe you were supposed to be careful." At Adrianna's gentle admonishment I turn to see her crouched at the edge of the roof. I give her a slightly abashed smile before I leap and scamper up to the rooftop beside her.
"They were going to do mean things to Mother May, I couldn't just let them have it easy." I mutter. It was true, maybe not the entirety of the motivation, but I was very mad at how they want to use Mother May.
"Very well young master, but that way of fighting will leave bruises and young master Lee will be displeased so please use these instead." Adrianna hands over a small canister of silver needles with a strange jelly like substance in the bottom. "These needles are filled with a strong anaesthetic that will knock a person out almost instantly. They are particularly effective on magic users who have a weaker constitution." Adrianna explains as she leads the way to another high window. "You deal with the two this side I will deal with the other three" she says and then shifts.
Ooh? I didn't know there were Spiderskins. No wonder she gives a stealth bonus. Shaking my head to clear the image of the spider slinking off I slip inside onto the beams. I guess that explains the build design. It would be perfect for Adrianna. Actually, maybe I should ask for lessons, it would be neat to use my thread the way a spider uses their silk.
Setting aside my plans I creep along the beams into what seems to be a day room. It has a chase lounge at large glass windows. One of the two enemies is carelessly tossing books off the bookcase while muttering to himself.
"I don't know why we're even doing this. The pay isn't enough and there is nothing good to grab here." At the end of his sentence the man grabs a statuette which doesn't come off but instead acts like a switch causing the bookcase to move and revealing a steel room with the servant huddled inside. "Tch" the man sneers and waves a hand letting a blue bolt shoot towards the room only for it to hit a shimmering wall and bounce back. Dodging to one side the man growls. "Seriously more fucking wards? What is this ward central." As the man steps back in front of the opening he leers. "At least I might get to have some fun here." His eyes focus on two young girls huddled in the back and dressed in jeans and white shirts with aprons on. Probably kitchen or cleaning staff.
While the man is focused on trying to break the ward I sneak over and use my tail to hang from the beam. I know the staff must see me, but they show no reaction. With a careful stretch I reach out and stab the needle into the man's neck. He drops like a stone and I smirk. Dropping to the ground I glance at the map and once assured that no one was approaching I smile reassuringly at the staff before shifting the statuette to let the door slide closed again.
I scamper back onto the roof beam and head off. As I approach my last target I watch as first one then two of the markers for Adrianna's targets go dark. So very skilled, this big sister is very cool.
As I'm distracted by the coolness of Adrianna, I reach the last room only to have to leap backwards when a green orb flies at me from the last man who is staring up at the ceiling.
"I'd heard that the Yan's were taking in the weirdos, but I thought it was limited to that spider creep never thought they'd take in something like you. What even are you?" the man asks as I glide across the room to latch onto one of the large bookcases. This was a library like room and there was a maze of bookcases just below the beams.
"I'm just too cool." I reply as I slip over the other side of the bookcase out of sight. The bookcases were set in a veritable maze and when the man tosses another orb at the bookcase directly it bounces back at him.
"You're just creepy you mean." The man calls before he mutters, "More wards, why did they ward the bookshelves?"
"Tehe, you shouldn't be jealous it's unbecoming." I call back as I slide around another bookcase. Keeping an eye on the man's mark on the mini map I stay along the middle of the selves as I move through the maze around behind him. I sidle up to the side of one bookcase as the man's dot moves up beside it. I pull out another needle and as he reaches the line with the edge of the bookcase, I swing my arm around and stab. The needle catches him in the arm, and I leap over his head. As he shoots another orb. I roll on the ground and spring up behind another case and take off running.
He staggers round the case behind me and I spring up on the left for the orb to go past me and then leap over to the right before the orb rebounds going further up the case as I continue to run into the stacks around the next two cases. A thump sounds from behind me. I go up onto the roof before I pause to check the map just as the last red dot flashes twice and goes dark.
"Few" I drop onto my back on top of the cupboard. "That was perhaps a bit more thrill than I was expecting." I mutter to myself.
"Then I think it would be best if you didn't do it next time." Lee's voice sounds before his face suddenly appears right above me.
