As I settled into a seat on the bus I began to plot what I needed to do. No point in going home, given the predictable nature of this story they will be adopting the protagonist soon, and I have better things to do. According to what I had seen on the phone earlier it would take twenty minutes to get to the city so I had a bit of time to sort it out.
According to what I knew about this world this country was well known for its social segregation and business environment, but the neighbouring B country was more well known for its artistic companies, a great many famous model, actors and singers where based in B country and it had the most well developed literary environment. It was thoughts of the literary environment that sold me. A country with good reading environment was my sort of country.
First up I need a phone, and probably a tablet with cellular. Find and apply to a relevant academy in B country. Suitcase, clothes, and basic amenities. I glance at my wrist hoping that I'm going to have enough money. Rayne had been entirely home schooled despite the fact that his siblings had gone to actual school. Considering the circumstances, it makes it seem likely that his parents had been planning to dispose of him and replace him with an actual girl right from the start. Still in his attempts to please his parents he had worked hard gaining some significant computer skills which I could make use of if necessary.
As the bus comes to stop in the city I hop out and head to the ATM and check my balance. For all that they never linked him at least his parents where not stingy. Assured that I had sufficient funds to shop and move to B Country, with likely enough to rent for the seven weeks till term started before I would need to worry about thinking of earning more i head into the shopping disrict.
I quickly buy a phone and tablet with a bag before going into an average priced youth fashion clothing store. Not the quality of clothes that filled Rayne's wardrobe at home, but it would be sufficient, particularly when I could pick the style.
Two minutes later I take a pair of black slim fit pants with scull shaped cut outs down the side as well as a pair of high top sneaker boots in a grey and then a black vest with a pair of grey wings embroidered on that back to the change room. I try them on and after finding that they fitted stepped out and asked, "Excuse me can I wear this set out?" not normally something I would have considered but, the purple ruffle skirt and top where just not conductive to my plans for the day. The store clerk turns towards to me and then freezes. As she continues to stare I raise a brow and look behind me.
When I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror I nod the clothes fit just right and look very good. Admittedly my current face was quite pretty, but without a corresponding presence it was no different than a pretty flower, interesting for a glance but not something to stare at, and so far as I was aware did not have any particular presence.
"Miss?" I prod she starts and then nods.
"Yes, yes that's fine." I smile and she freezes again. Shaking my head, maybe she just didn't get out much and found flowers particularly interesting. Ten sets of clothes should do it. I go around the shop picking out a few more pairs of pants, and a variety of tops as well as two coats, three hats and a second pair of boots. The more coverage I had on my legs the better things typically went, but the tops where not so stringent some being crop tops and some having long sleeves as well as the typical singlet and t-shirt styles. At the last minute I put a single nice red dress in as well just in case something came up that required a more delicate look.
i then go to the till and wait for the clerk to break out of her daze. I pay and then leave heading to buy a suitcase which I promptly drop all the clothes in. A quick stop in one of the large department stores to buy toiletries and under clothing and I was ready to go.
Instead of heading straight to the international train centre I find a nearby food court and order a roast lunch. While I wait for it to be prepared I pull out the tablet and find a viable academy in B country and started working through the application. I was worried that it would be difficult but the areas covered where the same as my school in the real world had been and since I was a top student it would have been sad indeed had I not been able to fill them out. Interestingly I found that I had no problem using Rayne's programming skills to pass one of the additional requirements for a scholarship application and since I was an avid reader I include an additional literary report as the second supporting content for scholarship.
As I ate I fill out the remaining few pieces and edit everything before sending it away. I'd have to apply to at least two other academies as backups, but that could wait. After I take a few minutes to book a ticket on the night train to B country I settle back in my chair to think.
Now that my in world concerns a fixed and I am on a path to avoid the live experience of the annoying villain mob. I never minded a little bit of rivalry in my readings, but the stories where the secondary character literally throws away their dignity for the obsession despite not getting any form of reciprocation always had me tossing the story aside; as the constant interruptions and then disbelief that the obsession would turn to loathing of not only the rival, but of any and all support characters.
I jolt out of my thoughts as a man drops into the seat opposite me. He looked like every idea I'd ever had of what a handsome butler would look like. Actually, considering this is a virtual world inclined to such stereotypes he likely is a butler.
"Is something wrong." I ask considering that a yes was a for gone conclusion since he had dropped his head on the table in the picture of dejection. The man starts and the looks up at me.
"I...I ....I'm sorry I did not see you there."
"It is not as if I mind sharing the table, but if its not to rude can I ask what has caused so much heartache?" I tilt my head to the side and then add "though we should probably exchange names first, I'm Rayne, nice to meet you." I hold my hand out and the man automatically shakes it his tears drying due to his surprise.
"Young master Rayne, I am Kain. I was the butler at the Ichina household, but the young miss had me fired as I disapproved of her choice of partner." As Kain continued a dark look passes over his face and it becomes clear that he might be the male stalking horse. Hmm, I wonder how much autonomy the characters in this fabrication have?
"It seems that she is not worth your devotion," I remark and Kain straightens.
"How could you say that?"
"Simple enough, if someone has discarded you love and devotion then they do not deserve it. For some this evolves into a hate and revenge for the scorn but I am more inclined to use the hurt they caused to form a knife and carve them out of my life. If they are not worthy of my love, then they are not worth my time at all." As I finish speaking I remember a friend I'd had as a child it turned out he was only hanging around me for the chance to see my brothers, thinking the little plain brother would be the perfect excuse, thus as soon as he got what he wanted he cast me aside. In response I erased his existence from my life, it turned out that without my regard my brothers wanted nothing to do with him. Thus from then on my pretending he never existed was to him the ultimate punishment.
Kain stares at me blankly and my phone beeps letting me know it was time to go to the station. i stand and Kain blinks "Where are you going?" he asks and I smile and reply,
"To the international train station, I'm going to B country."
"Can I come?" Kain asks softly. I raise a brow. That is interesting.
"Sure. Lets go somewhere fun."
