When Jane first tried to bake a cake by herself, she accidentally burned down the whole kitchen with her in it. Dad rushed in to rescue her before she could be consumed by the flames and smoke. Since then, Dad has been very protective of Jane, forbidding her to cook alone for fear of the same accident happening again and killing her.
