"Kushi...." His voice was an anguished plea for understanding..

"I'm leaving" she said and quickly walked out of the shop with Arnav hot on her heels.

"Kushi...stop" Arnav called out

She didn't stop until she reached his car

She turned around and looked his straight into his eyes

"Where to next Arnav ji?? A boutique?? Maybe you want to give me a tip for my wonderful performance for the last six months. Or is it for keeping myself away from your family. For not reminding them that the reason for their beloved daamad ji's betrayal is still living under their roof??" Kushi asked coldly

Arnav gulped.

"Kushi...listen"

"I'm tired Arnav ji. I would like to go home. If you are busy I can take a rickshaw" Kushi said politely composing herself

"No. I will take you home" Arnav opened the door for him and Kushi settled in

After a few minutes of silent ride Arnav decided to explain his behavior

"I was angry with you then" Arnav said and Kushi looked at him in confusion

"Ji??"

"That day when the jewellers came home. You were wearing a bracelet given by your fiance. I didn't like it. I was angry with you for wearing something given by another man" Arnav said and Kushi stopped herself from rolling her eyes

"I was hurt" he admitted realising only truth will help him in winning her back

"Why would you be hurt. You were engaged yourself" Kushi said

"I know. I was confused. I didn't realise my feelings then. And in the boutique. You were looking so gorgeous. I wanted to touch you. But you backed away from me. As if my touch is a sin. And I know why you did that. Because you considered yourself engaged to another man. You considered yourself belonging to another man. I couldn't bear it Kushi. I just couldn't" Arnav said

Kushi laughed. A mirthless one

"You ,an engaged man couldn't bear that I was engaged to another man. You didn't want me. You didn't want anyone else to have me either. Or is it that you wanted both of us?? Educated wealthy and sophisticated Lavanya ji as your wife and simple middle class orphan girl ,Kushi as your....your..." Kushi couldn't even utter the word

"ENOUGH" Arnav roared.

"After what happened on diwali night ,you might have thought I'm a fair game. No one would question you right? Middle class hei na"

"Enough Kushi. Stop it. Just stop it." Arnav shouted . He pressed his feet onto the accelerator increasing the speed of the car

He wanted to break something. He wanted to bang something.

Kushi..his Kushi just implied that he is capable of something like that.

No!! He is Arnav Singh Raizada. Not Arnav Malik

He will never cheat. He is not capable to do that

How could she think he would do that.

He glanced at her and saw that she had her eyes shut tightly ,her fingers curled into a tight fist

'I'm scared of dark. I'm scared to sleep alone. I'm scared of fast moving cars'

Her words came rushing swiftly and he reduced the speed of the car and soon they reached Shantivan

"You go inside. I have some work" he said . She got down from the car without even asking him where he is going

He smiled sadly and drove away to his mother's rose garden

He kneeled down near the bench

Her every word kept ringing in his head

Every single thing he did to hurt her came back to haunt him

He did everything in his power to push her away. And he succeeded quiet spectacularly.

Now, he couldn't find a way back to her

All his wrong doings has made a barrier around her ,stopping him ,warning him

He rubbed his chest. He couldn't bear the pain.

He can't lose her.

He felt the darkness closing in on him

He felt difficulty in breathing

His sister's word rang clear in his head

"Dekhna chotte. Ek din ek aisi ladki aayegi tumhare life mein. Jiske binaa tum jee nahi paogi. Jiske door jaane se tumhaare saansein hi ruk jaayegi"

(You just wait and see chotte. One day! A girl would come in your life, without whom you wouldn't be able to live. Even the thought of her leaving you will make your breathing stop)

He had laughed at her ,calling her silly.

Now he can feel it.

If Kushi leaves him ,he will stop breathing

"Maaa. I can't live without her maa. Please help me Maa. I need her." Arnav begged

***

Kushi rushed to their...no ,his room and shut the door quickly not wanting her sister to see her in this state.

She dropped down onto the floor ,with her back pressed against the door.

She pulled her knees towards her chest and hugged herself

Why?? Why does it still hurt??

'Why devi maiyya?? Why did you give him this much power over me??

When will this ache stop. When will I become free of this anguish

Please Devi maiyya. Give me strength. Please don't let me break.'

She remembered her own words...

'Or is it that you wanted both of us?? Educated wealthy and sophisticated Lavanya ji as your wife and simply middle class orphan girl ,Kushi as your....your...'

She didn't mean that. Why did she say that?? And she knew her words hurt him

Why is the thought of him being hurt so painful for her. After everything he made her go through ,why couldn't she bear his pain

Did she want to hurt him?? Is that why she uttered all those non sense??

She never wanted to hurt anyone. She had never hurt anyone intentionally. Then how could she do that to the man she loved.

No!! She shouldn't have said that.

Whatever happens in life ,she will not let anyone change the real essence of Kushi Kumari Gupta.

Not even Arnav Singh Raizada

Punishing him is not her goal.

Her goal is self preservation.

She do not want to give him pain. She simply wants to protect herself from more pain.

And for that ,she has to leave from here without any fight. Without any exchange of painful words.

'Give me strenth devi maiyya'

Devi maiyya smiled down at her favorite devotee, silently promising her that she would stand like a shield in front of Kushi, protecting her from that gusse ka dukaan.
