Arnav hurried up the stairs towards the terrace.

His heart trying to come up with reasons why Kushi would have forgotten to let him know about her studies.

He refused to believe that she did it on purpose. That she didn't feel it important to let him know.

No! His Kushi is not like that. She would never block him out.

As he reached the terrace and looked around, he found her in the shaded corner surrounded by books.

The terrace holds a very traumatic memory for him. This is the place where he saw Kushi in that bas**rd's arms. This is the place where he misunderstood his Kushi. This is the place where he felt his heart breaking

"Kushi" he called out ,pushing the unpleasant memories out of the way.

Kushi looked up at him ,but her eyes didn't lit up seeing him ,like they always do.

"Yes Arnav ji? Kuch kaam tha?" Her voice held a note of resignation

"No. Payal said you were in the terrace" Arnav said

"Okay"

"She also said something about you resuming your studies"

"Ji" Kushi nodded

Arnav started getting irritated with her monosyllabic answers. Where is the Kushi who talks non stop. Who keeps chattering about anything and everything in the world.

"Why didn't you tell me Kushi?" Arnav asked suppressing his anger.

"What is there to tell? I didn't think you would be interested in knowing whatever happens in my life" Kushi said with a non chalant shrug

"Your life? It's our life Kushi. Our life!"

Kushi stood up from where she was sitting and let out a mirthless chuckle.

"If you wanted to know ,yes I'm resuming my studies. I just couldn't sit idle and wait until the contract is over to start my new life." Kushi said

"Contract? What do you mean by that?" Arnav asked angrily as he held her elbows and pulled her dangerously close

Kushi pushed him away with all her might and Arnav stumbled back not expecting the move from her.

Yes! She always tries to wiggle out of his hold, but she had never pushed him away

"The marriage contract we signed six months ago! It will be over in a few days. You might not have thought about what would happen to me after the contract period is over ,when you made me sign it. But I have to think about my future."

"What the hell are you talking Kushi. After everything we went through ,you still think this is a contract marriage"

"I made the mistake of forgetting it for a while. But you reminded me again. And Kushi Kumari Gupta do not have the habit of repeating her mistakes" Kushi said with conviction

"Kushi after last night, how could you even think of leaving me?" Arnav asked painfully

"I'm sure whatever happened last night must not be a big deal for you. You have been in relationships before and you must have done more than mere kissing. Hume pata hei aapko isse koi faraq nahi padta" Kushi said
(I know all these doesn't matter to you)

"I have never..." Arnav began to say ,but Kushi raised her hands showing her palm ,asking him to stop

"I have been there Arnav ji. I have been a witness for your relationship with Lavanya ji. I have seen what kind of relationship you shared with her. I know what a live-in relationship means" Kushi said

"Its not like that Kushi. We have never-" Kushi again cut him off

"Hume koi faraq nahi padta Arnav ji. Aap pareshan mat kijiye. Ek amir aadmi ne hume kiss kiya uski wajah se ,hum nahi sochenge ki humari zindagi ban gayi. Humaare liye ab uss baat ki ya aapki koi ehmiyat nahi hei" Kushi said and Arnav sucked in a sharp breath.
(I don't care Arnav ji. Don't worry. Just because a rich man kissed me ,I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking that my life is all set. All these doesn't matters to me anymore)

His own words coming to haunt him

The words he uttered on the fateful diwali night.

'Tumhari payal meri paas thi iska koi galat matlab mat nikaal lena
Ye mat sochna ki ek amir aadmi tumhari payal apne seene pe lagakar baitaa tha
Mujhe iss sabse koi faraq nahi padta
It doesn't mean a thing' he had said that night breaking her heart into million little pieces

'Koi matlab nahi hei?'

'Shayad tumhare liye hoga
Tumhe tho laga hoga tumhari zindagi ban gayi
Mere liye uss baat ki ya tumhari koi ehmiyat nahi hei' he had said ruthlessly ,crushing her beneath his words

Now he knows how it felt

Is there an end to the ways he had inflicted hurt upon her.

"Kushi- I-. Last night you said you understood why I behaved like that."

"I do. I do understand. But that doesn't make my pain any less. Ab humari sehen karne ki sakthi katham ho chuki hei."
(I don't have the strength to bear you anymore)

"Don't say that Kushi. Please don't give upon us" Arnav said desperately

"Sadly ,there never was an US Arnavji" Kushi said with a sad smile

"Kushi.."

"If you don't mind ,I would like to get back to my studies Arnav ji. Don't worry ,I will stay out of your family's sight. Humari wajah se aapki di aur pariwar walon ko koi pareshani nahi honge aage se" Kushi said and resumed her position on the mat with her English book
(Neither your sister nor your family would be bothered by me anymore)

Arnav stared at her ,feeling the walls closing in on him

He can't lose her. Not now ,Not ever.

He would stop breathing if she left him

No! ASR would never allow that to happen. Kushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada belongs to him and only him.

There is no way he would allow anything to separate them ,he vowed to himself

Devi maiyya face palmed. When she thought he was learning to be Kushi's Arnav ji ,the blasted ASR had to poke its head in between. Well if he want to write misery in his destiny ,let him do so. Why should she bother?

Kushi kept reading the same line again and again and she let out the breath ,she didn't even realise she was holding, as she heard the sound of his retreating footsteps

'Didn't you promise yourself that you wouldn't hurt him in any way. You wouldn't let out words like that. Your plan was to keep distance and leave silently ,without a fight' her heart reminded her

But the other part of her ,the part that was too hurt opposed vehemently

'He should know how much he had hurt you. He should realise that. And without your pointing them out ,that thick skulled man would never understand'
