Chapter Thirty-Two: A Failed Fairy Godmother Attempt

I didn’t go home.

I didn’t want to deal with that just now. I just needed to be on my own. I found my feet leading me to the old kids park that I used to play at when I was younger. Nostalgia crept over me as I took in the small oval park.

Once upon a time…

My chest gave a sharp ache that ran down my arms into the joints in my fingers.

I sank onto a park bench, letting what had happened over the last hour wash over me.

I bowed my head, clenching my eyes tightly closed.

I don’t know how long I stayed there, but the skies started to darken pretty quickly, and the air grew frostier turning my fingers a stinging numb. I barely felt the cold.

Taylor!”

My eyebrows scrunched together in confusion when I heard my name being called. I almost convinced myself I’d imagined it when it came again.

Taylor!

Twisting around in my seat I didn’t see anyone around.

Just brilliant. I was going insane.

Suddenly I realised just how late it had gotten. The first few dim stars were starting to show through the greying sky. A shiver worked its way down my spine, as my heart started hammering slightly faster in my chest.

I was completely alone, hearing a disembodied voice calling my name…I wasn’t particularly superstitious, but that was creepy.

“Taylor, you idiot!” The voice called again, louder this time. More frustrated.

I would have definitely been more freaked out if I hadn’t realised that I recognised that voice.

“Mackenzie?” I found myself calling back to the empty park, turning my head in the direction of where I thought I’d heard my name being called from.

I heard the low sound of his voice, calling something else back to me, but it was quieter this time so I couldn’t make out the words, but less than a minute later Mackenzie appeared from behind the buildings surrounding the park.

I saw him looking around himself before he caught sight of me, and headed in my direction, not slowing his pace.

As he grew closer I flinched back slightly. He looked… kind of pissed off.

“What the hell, Taylor!” He all but growled when he got close enough to talk. I expected him to stop where he stood, but he didn’t. He continued his advance until he was stood right in front of me and he gripped my face in both hands.

I flinched at how cold his fingers were.

“I’ve been searching everywhere for you.” He continued his face fixed into a harsh look. “Why haven’t you been answering your phone?” He asked me, his eyes boring into mine.
