"I have come for Prince Sugawara! He who has been locked away for 18 years!" A nameless soldier called from under the tower window. Sugawara peeked his eyes over the window sill, wanting to get a look at the man.
"Should I?" A deep voice rumbled from over Suga's shoulder.
Sugawara gave a curt nod. "Torch 'em."
Within two seconds, the soldier was cooked to a crisp, his remaining bones falling to the floor with a loud clatter. Suga giggled. Don't get him wrong, killing people isn't a good thing, but seeing his possible suitors be taken down in mere seconds was a small pleasure in his bleak life.
A small 'poof' sounded next to Suga and Daichi, now human, walked to him, taking a seat next to the prince. Suga always thought it was funny that a large and terrifying dragon had such a cute transformation sound.
"I think that's a new record, Mr. Dragon."
"Pardon?" Daichi asked tilting his head to the side.
"I think that's the fastest you've ever gotten rid of someone," Sugawara replied, leaning his head back on the stone wall of the tower. Call it instinct, but Suga could tell that the other man was pouting.
"He looked like an asshole," Daichi mumbled, looking anywhere but Sugawara. The platinum blond laughed. It was a sweet sound that Daichi wholeheartedly enjoyed. Daichi could recall the first time he heard it, too. It was when the prince had first been brought to this castle. They were both seven, Suga being a child and Daichi being a fully-grown dragon. He couldn't remember the exact reason Suga had been locked away, but he did remember that when Suga first stepped into the castle he laughed at one of the stone gargoyles. He pointed the statue out to his mother and laughed some more, this time having to stop walking so he could catch his breath. Daichi had watched this entire exchange from the rafters, curious about the small human coming into his home.
When Suga was left in the tower in the east wing, Daichi made a habit of checking up on the small thing now and then. Both Daichi and Suga thought that his parents would be coming back to retrieve him soon. Unfortunately, that never happened. A year passed and Suga still sat in his tower, looking out of the tower window almost 24/7. Daichi felt bad for him, for he hadn't had any interaction with another living being for a year. One day, Daichi built up his courage and introduced himself to the boy. Suga was frightened at first but soon took a liking to the creature. They became friends quickly, for they had similar situations. Daichi regularly brought Suga stolen gifts and trinkets from the soldiers that came to the castle, hoping to make the boy happy.
"Hey, Daichi?" The brunette turned to face Sugawara. "Do you ever think someone good will come for me?"
Daichi thought for a moment.
"What if they were already here?"
Suga shot up, looking frantically around the dilapidated tower.
"Where?! Did you hide him somewhere?" Sugawara asked, his face lit up in pure, unbridled euphoria.
"Uh, no," Daichi mumbled, his face turning a deep shade of crimson.
"Then where is he?" Suga asked again, tilting his head to the side in confusion. Daichi decided that it was now or never. Time to throw all his cards on the table.
"Right here?" He replied, uncertainty in his voice. Sugawara's face fell for a moment, making Daichi's heart sink. But to his surprise, Suga started to giggle, which soon turned into laughter that had him doubled over, gasping for air.
"What!" Daichi yelled, completely flushed.
"Oh, Daichi. You truly are too cute," Sugawara said before lowering himself to the floor again, pulling Daichi in for a hug. Daichi returned it, burying his face in Suga's shoulder.
"I know I'm not a knight in shining armor, but Suga, would you maybe want to leave the castle? With me, that is."
A blindingly bright smile formed on Suga's face before he yelled out a frantic stream of 'yes, I will!'. You would think the boy had gotten proposed to.
"What are we waiting for! Let's go!" Daichi said, suddenly gaining confidence. He pulled Suga off the floor and started to run for the door, pulling Suga along behind him.
They never returned to the tower, having no need for that place that confined their love for so long.
