So I just got re-obsessed with otters and I got this idea from seeing a picture of two otters cuddling. Just to clear up any confusion, Daichi and Suga are otters, and Yamaguchi is their keeper.

~~~~~~~~
"Now Daichi. I know you're nervous about what the new otter will be like, but I swear it'll be ok." I said, starting to stroke the otters back. He let out a small chirp and I giggled, continuing to stroke the animal.
"Yamaguchi! He's here!" I heard someone yell from the back of the exhibit.
"Well, guess that's my cue!" I said, giving the otter one last pat before gently nudging him towards the pool. He happily obliged and dove into the pool with a good-sized 'splash'. I laughed at his antics and got up to go to the back part of the exhibit.
I opened the door and was immediately hit with the cheerful sound of an otter chirping. I walked to where the plastic carrier was sitting and squatted down, looking into the carrier.
Inside was a medium-sized otter with silver bits mixed in with his brown fur. I found it cute how a little bit of silver hair stuck up on top of his head. I slowly brought my hand to the wire door of the carrier, hoping to be able to pet our new addition.
When the otter noticed that I was there he stood up and shook out his fur. He walked to the front of the carrier and put his nose against my finger.
"Awww. Social thing, aren't you?" I asked with the otter gurgling in response. I moved my finger to his chin and scratched, earning a quiet purr from the animal.
I heard the door click and I looked up.
"Hey, Asahi! How's it going?" I asked, smiling up at him. He smiled back and said,
"I'm good, thanks. I see you met our newest arrival."
"Yeah! He's super cute. Say, do we have a name for him yet?" I asked, still petting the otter through the carrier.
"No, but I have something in mind." He responded. I made a motion with my free hand for him to continue.
"Well, he kinda looks like one of my friends from high school, so I was thinking of naming him 'Suga'. What do you think?"
I looked back to the otter in the carrier, watching the otter nuzzle against my hand through the wire.
"I think it's perfect."
"Oh good. Well, you should probably go introduce him to the exhibit now." Asahi said, already starting to walk out of the room.
"Yeah, I probably should." I chuckled and stood up, picking up the carrier in the process. I held it up to my face and whispered,
"Ready to go, Suga?" The otter made a sound that sounded almost identical to laughter and did a spin in the carrier. I opened the door to the exhibit and the first thing I saw was Daichi sitting patiently on the deck. (A/N I'm calling the floor the deck because I don't know what else to call it lol)
"Hello, Daichi. Ready to meet your new roommate?" The otter got up and ran to where I was standing, looking at the carrier in my hand. He made a chirping sound and I heard Suga make one back. Daichi seemed to get a bit excited by this because he ran a circle around my feet, making little squeals.
Once he had calmed down a bit I set the carrier down and unhooked the latch that held to door closed. I expected Suga to come barreling out, but there wasn't as much as a tremor from the otter. I started to get worried, but I didn't worry too long because Daichi walked up to the front of the carrier and stuck his nose inside. After a moment he walked inside, seemingly wanting to meet Suga for himself.
What happened next was something I never would have expected from our easy-going otter. Suga slowly walked out and Daichi soon followed, gently pushing Suga with his nose. Once Suga was out of the carrier I picked it up and put it on a shelf so it wasn't in the way. In the moment that I had my back turned Daichi had pushed Suga into the pool and dove in after him. They splashed around for a moment before Daichi dove down with Suga following. I muttered a small 'aw' and squatted down, watching the two otters play with each other.
~~~~~~~~

"Daichi! Suga! Lunch!" I yelled into the exhibit. I soon heard the sound of eight feet running in my direction. I made my way into the exhibit and saw Daichi and Suga sitting together on the deck, looking up expectantly at me. I squatted down and pulled a crayfish out of my bucket, handing it to Suga. He took it in his mouth and dove into the pool, starting to pull the crustacean apart. I felt Daichi put a paw on my knee and I handed him a small oyster. He took it and ran to where Suga was floating around.

I watched them eat for a moment before walking to the edge of the pool. Suga swam up to me and I handed him another crayfish. He chirped and started to repeat the process of tearing the outer-shell off and eating it. I turned my attention to Daichi and handed him a small scallop. He turned it around in his paws for a moment before swimming over to Suga and handing it to him. Suga took the treat and nuzzled his nose against the side of Daichi's face, almost like he was kissing him.

"Aww, you two act like a married couple," I said, fishing more food of the bucket in my hand.

~~~~~~~~
"Mom! Look at the pretty otters!" I heard a visitor say. I turned and saw a little boy, no older than 7, pointing at Daichi and Suga through the glass. I approached the lady and her son and said,
"Would you like to know more about the otters?" The little boy smiled and nodded, causing his navy hair to bounce around a little.
"Ok. You see that larger one there? His name is Daichi. And the other one's name is Suga. They're our only otters, and they've lived most of their lives here. Daichi was born in the aquarium and Suga was rescued a little over a year ago." The boy smiled again and turned his attention back to the exhibit, looking at the animals.
"Hey, which one is that?" He suddenly asked, pointing at something through the glass. I looked to where he was pointing and mentally face-palmed myself for forgetting out new addition.
"I forgot to mention we have a new baby otter with us. We rescued him about two months ago and Daichi and Suga immediately took a liking to him. They're basically his parents. His name is Shoyo." I laughed lightly and looked to see Shoyo cuddled up on Suga's chest, seeming to be taking a nap. Suga had his front paws wrapped around the small otter and looked like he would fight anyone who dared mess with his baby. I watched as Daichi slowly swam to where Suga was floating and nudged him with his nose. Suga turned his head and gave Daichi a small kiss.
"Mom! Look how cute they are!" The boy exclaimed sinking to the floor.
"I see that honey, but how about we go see the rest of the animals before they close?" The mom asked.
"No! I wanna stay with the otters!" He whined in response.
"Honey, we need to see everything else. Now say goodbye to the nice keeper." The mom retorted, picking the small boy up by his armpits. He sighed and looked at me, flashing a bright smile.
"Bye-bye!" He said, slumping against his mother's shoulder.
"Bye! I hope to see you back here soon!" I smiled and waved to the boy as he and his mother walked off. I sighed contently and looked back to the animals in the exhibit. They were all cuddling together and if I tried hard enough I could hear a small purr coming from one of them.
"How are you guys so cute?" I asked, walking towards the exit to go home for the day.
This totally isn't an apology for writing a semi-angsty Halloween one-shot. Nope. Totally not.
For the people who entered my costume mix and match contest, (there's like two of you), the weekend is coming up so I will be posting the photos soon!
Have a nice day/night!
