The candle light pulses in the small tent. We crowd around a wooden table as Percy scribbles our note and names, signing out of the camp. General Hedge gave us permission, but told us to be stealth as the rest of the soldiers are down and injured in the tents surrounding us.
I see Percy write:
Jason, Andrew, Percy, Luke, Leo, Frank
"You write too slow," Leo says.
"Shhh," I whack him on the shoulder.
Frank whispers, "Which way are we heading out?"
"To the palace," Percy responds.
Dimly, I am aware of my village being in that direction. Percy finishes up his note, and drops the pen. It clatters and rolls across the table. We stand there for one more moment, aware of the danger this journey presents.
"Together," I say faintly.
"Together."
