POV Blakely: Today Maya took me to school because Carina got paged super early in the morning. Maya did my hair in a low ponytail and gave me waffles for breakfast. I was now seated at my desk reading a book until the bell rang. It was time for lunch so as usual I made my way to the library to eat alone. When I got there I pulled my lunch out and started reading my book again. That was until I felt it get snatched away from me, by none other then Nick.
"Well well well, what do we have here? Oh I know, it's the loser who has no friends. You know I found out why you have no friends, it's because your an orphan. No one likes you Blakely. Now I gotta go before i'm seen with you but I will see you after lunch." He taunted.
I knew what he meant by "after lunch" it meant he was going to beat me up. I quickly made my way to the library after my encounter with Nick and took small bites of my lunch. Once the bell rang I sighed knowing what was coming so I walked to my classroom hoping I could avoid him, but as always he stopped me. Most days he did his usual beating, which consists of some kicks and punches to my stomach, legs, and back. Nick knew not to make anything noticeable because people would get suspicious if he hit my face. With one final kick he walked away with a smirk on his face and said "well my job here is done." As soon as the devil himself is out of sight I wait 5 more minutes till I gather up the strength to pick my body up. I'm in so much pain right now but i'm used to it so this shouldn't bother me. Long story short, the rest of my day was spent with my body in agonizing pain.

POV no one: Carina ended up having a very busy morning with lots of deliveries, ultrasounds and consults. It was just after 1:55pm when she finished her last delivery, finally she could get some rest before she had to pick up Blakely. The Italian walked down the halls of the hospital trying to find an on-call room that wasn't occupied by people having sex. Finally she found one, the 5 on-call room on the PEDs floor, the girl kicked off her shoes and yawned while crawling into the bed.

The buzzing of her phone is what woke her up. Some from Bailey, one from Maya saying she was gonna be late tonight and lastly a few of her patients sending her pictures of their new baby's. After ten minutes of scrolling through her phone she got up and went to go pick up Blakely. Carina arrived at Blakely's school 5 minutes before it ended, hoping that Blakely's day would be better then yesterday or that she would open up a bit more. Once she saw the small 11 year old she got out of the car to greet her.
"Hello bambina, how was your day?" Carina asked.
"It was ok, how was yours?" Blakely said while avoiding eye contact. Carina said her day was good and then they both drove home.
"Blakely why don't you start your homework and I will unpack your bag." Carina said. Blakely nodded in response as she went upstairs to her room.
Once she was set up Blakely started on her ELA first. The class had been reading some short storys and answering questions about it. The girl was fine with most of the questions but when it came to the personal ones asking what you would do, or how you feel, she just can't do it. This was the only homework she had tonight as she finished everything else. Blakely stared down at the question on her paper, "Do you relate to any of the characters in the story? If so who, and why?" This question pissed Blakely off so much, of course the class had to read about a girl without parents, who has a tough life, until a boy comes to her school and helps her. It's like this story was made about her. How is she supposed to say "Oh I relate to Mary because I don't have parents." She already knows the rest of her class/bullies will say some bullshit like, "I relate to Alex because I help others who are in trouble." Which is totally not true because they are the bully's. This stupid question frustrated the girl till she was in tears and sobbing. Blakely was containing her sobs and trying to stay quiet, she did well, until she heard a door open.

POV Maya: I had just walked in the front door greeted with the smell of Carina's wonderful cooking until I heard a faint scream/sob. Carina turned off the stove, saw me and gave me a kiss and then we both ran upstairs. When we entered Blakely's room we saw her sobbing on the floor, it broke my heart.
"Bella, shhh, calm down it's ok. Maya and I are here just breathe." Carina cooed. She had gotten Blakely to calm down a little so I decided to ask her what happened.
"Hey sweetheart, can you tell me what's got you so worked up?" I made sure my voice was soft and my actions showed that I had no intentions of hurting her. "Hmm, what's goin' on in that beautiful mind?" I asked again. This time I was met with Blakely sobbing again and starting to gasp, as her breathing was very fast.
"Shh it's ok Blakely, your ok."
"No it's not ok" She shouted, "Nothing is ok! It's all so stupid!"
"Ok, can you tell us what's so stupid? We can help." I told her.
"BUT THATS THE THING! You cant help! This stupid story is so dumb and it's like it was made for me. You cant do anything cuz you don't relate the the characters like I do. BECAUSE YOUR NOT A FREAKING ORPHAN!" She screamed. Both Carina and I were taken aback by her sudden outburst, we understood why she got so worked up over the question because it was personal to her. I scooped her up in my arms, rocking her back and forth while she continued to cry.
"Blakely, we understand that this is a very personal thing for you and you don't want people to know, we get that. You may have previously been and orphan, but your not anymore." I said making sure to emphasize the "previously".
"N-n-no! You, you don't get it-t. I'm an orphan, I w-will al-always-s be an orphan." she said through sobs and hiccups. This time Carina cut in and said, "No bambina, your not an orphan. You were before, but now your here, with us, and we love you so so much. Your not an orphan anymore." Blakely shook her head at this then said, "How do I know your not just saying that? That your not just doing it for the money? Or getting me to trust you so then you can hurt me later or leave me all alone?"
My heart broke for this girl. She's only 11 and yet she has been through so much. I was still holding her with Carina who had also joined in the hug to show we do care.
"Honey," I said, "We do care, we care so much baby girl. We care about your health, your happiness, your heart and everything in between. It hasn't even been a week yet but now I cant picture you anywhere else except here. You, Blakely Rose, belong here, with us, your family. We may be a small family and this is new for all of us, and we're probably not the best at this whole parenting thing but we're gonna be the best parents we can. You don't need to call us your moms yet and if later on you still don't feel comfortable then we won't force you to call us that. We love you and care about you so much already. We don't see you as some orphan girl, we see you as Blakely, a talented, kindhearted, funny, adorable little girl." By the time I finished all three of us were in more tears then before. It was nice to have a family moment. This was a lot for Blakely to take in and we both knew that, she nodded with a small thank you. After a few more minutes of silence she spoke up again, "What do I write then? The question is 'Do you relate to any of the characters in the story? If so, who and why?' I don't know what to say cuz I only relate to Mary. We're both orphans. And if I leave it blank I loose marks."
I honestly didn't know what to say, because if she put that answer or something like that her teacher would contact us or her social worker.
"What if you wrote that you were adopted?" I suggested. No one knew what to put because it was clear she didn't relate to the other characters.
"I guess I could put that." Blakely agreed while writing it down.
"Ok my bambina's i'm going to finish making dinner, we are having pierogies." Carina said while leaving the room. Once she left I waited a few minutes until I asked Blakely if she wanted some alone time or if she wanted me to stay with her. I expected her to say she wants alone time but I was surprised when she asked me to stay. I moved us to her desk chair and I just stroked her hair and held her. It reminded me of when I first met her, she's still that same little girl just a little taller and older.
when should blakely realize that she knows maya from before?
