Chapter 15

Jay's POV

I made my way towards the lunch room with my gun raised.  I see someone with their hand around Val's neck.  I run towards her. 

"HEY LET GO OF HER!" I yelled

The suspect lets go of Val and runs out the door.  I run after her but lose her.  I make my way back to the lunch room where Val is and check up on her. 

"Valerie are you okay?" I asked embracing her in my arms

"I'm fine. Let go of me" she says pushing me away

"Let me see your neck" I said lifting her chin up 

"I said that I'm fine" she says walking away

"Valerie are you okay!?" Erin says running up the stairs

"I'm fine. Thanks" says Valerie

"What did I tell you Jay? Do not engage until we got here" said Voight

"I'm sorry. I had to or else Val would be dead right now" I said looking at her

"Did you get a good look at the suspect?" Ruzek asked

"I didn't but Valerie sure did" I said

"Valerie, what did the suspect look like? Did you catch a name?" Voight asked

"I'm surprised Jay didn't recognize her" Val says

"What are you talking about?" I asked

"The suspect you are all looking for is Sara.  I don't know her last name but she was out to get me because of my association with Jay" Val said

"Sara...as in Sara Hill?" I asked

"Yeah as in Sara the one you slept with and cheated on me with" said Val

"Care to explain?" Antonio asked

"It was a one time thing.  I didn't know she would be back and be like this" I said

"Oh the best part is, she is the mother of your 4 year old son Luke" said Val

"Ooo...this is getting juicy" laughed Atwater and Ruzek

"My what?" I said in shock

"Your 4 year old son" said Val

"Jay you need to tell us everything you know about this Sara Hill.  Valerie thank you for your help.  You can have the rest of today off" Voight says

"Actually, I'd like to be put on leave if you don't mind Serg.  I don't think this kind of environment is for me.  I'll let you know when I want to come back" Val says

"Absolutely.  Take the time you need.  It was great knowing you from the time spent here.  We'll keep in touch" Voight says giving Val a hug

Valerie gathers all of her things and start to head out.  I follow her out. 

"Val wait!" I said catching up to her

"Just leave me alone Jay" she says as she's putting things in her car

"What did I do?"

"A whole shit ton"

"How can I fix this?"

"You can't.  It's too late for that" 

"Valerie please.  I beg you"

"I said no.  And lets forget what happened the past 24 hours" she says slamming her trunk shut

"No I can't! I can't forget what we did.  It's been awhile since I found comfort.  You're the reason why you make me a better person.  I can't let you go again.  I can't live without you" I said hugging her tightly

"Well you should've thought about that four years ago" she says pushing me away and then into the driver seat and drove off

I think I lost her for good this time.  I fucked up big time. I need to find out what Sara told her.  Also the fact that I have a child is still shocking.  I do want a DNA test to make sure it is my kid not Sara playing games with me and my life.  I take my phone out and dial Sara. 

"Hey hot stuff" Sara says on the other end

"Where are you?" I asked

"I'm at Molly's. Come stop by and lets have a chat" she says before hanging up 

I get into my truck and drove over to Molly's. I walked in and there she was sitting at the corner table drinking her beer.

"I want answers now" I said sitting down

"Be quiet. We don't want to start a scene now do we" Sara says

"I don't care.  You told Valerie that we have a kid!? How am I just finding out about this?"

"She deserved the truth and I gave it to her"

"You're full of shit Sara you know that"

"Think about it.  Four years ago we had a fling.  I got pregnant. I had a kid and now he's four years old.  It all adds up.  I swear I'm not making this up"

"I want a DNA test for confirmation"

"Why would you need a DNA test when clearly he is your kid?"

"To know that you're not lying to me and for me to get back to my normal life and be with the woman I love"

"What's so special about her anyway?" 

"Everything" 

"I don't see it" Sara says chugging her beer

"I'll meet you at the hospital tomorrow at 12pm.  You better be there" I said before heading out of Molly's. 

--The Next Day--

I get up out of bed and got ready to head out to the hospital.  I couldn't really sleep last night due to the many things running through my mind.  I've been up thinking about the whole situation with Sara while trying to get a hold of Valerie all night. 

Text "Valerie, please call me"

Text "Please answer me"

Text "Let me explain myself"

Text "What can I do for you not to hate me? What can I do to make up for it?"

I texted and called constantly but still no answer.  I just want her to give me a chance.  I don't care if we aren't friends after this but I just want to end in good terms.  

I make myself some coffee before grabbing my keys and heading out to my car.  I drove to med and went in through the emergency entrance. 

"Hey Jay" Will says

"Is Sara here yet?" I asked while looking around

"Sara who?"

"Sara Hill.  You know the mother of my child apparently"

"You, have a child?" Will asks shaking his head

"Oh shut up. Just have to seen her" I asked

"Nope, no Sara Hill here on the list. You could wait in the waiting room until she arrives" Will says before heading back to work. I checked my watch and of course she is late.  I call her and it goes straight to voicemail.  Unbelievable. 

-1 hour later-

Sara was a no show.  Why is she so scared of the DNA test.  If Luke is my kid then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. What is she hiding from me that she doesn't want to know?
