I remember it was so difficult for me to ask my mom for permission to go to Night Lights. Kahit si kuya pa ang kasama ko noon, at sila Sam at Sky ngayon, mahirap pa din. I grew up sneaking out with them just to watch. I mean, Night Lights is just too good to ignore. Everyone who are interested with cars and racing goes there. It's basically the common ground of people who enjoys those things. Night Lights makes us one.
Night Lights is not for people like me, like us. Night Lights is legal and for ordinary people. We do not belong here. Ibang mundo ang nakasanayan naming galawan.
But today, it's different. Mom approached me first and gave me tickets.
"Totoo ba 'to?" Hindi makapaniwalang tanong ni Kast nang iabot ko sa kaniya ang isa sa mga ticket.
"Hindi. Ilusyon mo lang." Hinampas ni Spear ang kaniya sa ulo ni Kast para matauhan ito.
Most of them are quite taken aback when I handed out the tickets for Night Lights. Even me when mom mentioned to tag Infinito along.
"Aalis na kayo?" Someone showed up, his voice made our heads whipped to his direction.
"Kuya!" I ran to him and gave him a hug. He chuckled at my sudden gesture. "You're not coming along?"
"No," He answered. "Kailangan kong magbawi."
Right. He still have to make it up to Don Amore. No time for fun and rest. Kahit nga noong mga panahong naghihilom ang mga tinamo niyang tama ng baril, nagtatrabaho siya. Sa katunayan, napakaswerte ni kuya. Hindi nagbibigay ng pagkakataon ang Don pero ginawa niya ngayon.
Noong araw na 'yon, kinamuhian ko siya. Kinwestyon ko ang puso at pag-iisip niya. Pero kinalimutan ko na rin ang galit ko dahil wala rin namang patutunguhan. Nagpasalamat pa ako sa kaniya dahil binuhay niya pa si kuya.
Wala kaming magagawa. Sa kaniya nakaikot ang buhay naming lahat.
"Ryde," Kuya Vair called before we leave. "Ingatan mo 'to." Then he let go of me.
"Matagal ko nang iniingatan 'yan."
The others teased Sam for his cheesy remark. I felt my face heating up. My cheeks hurt for containing my smile especially when the others asked if we're already dating.
And yes, we're already dating. Ano pa ba ang kailangan kong subukan at tingnan? Buong buhay ko ng kasama si Sam, itataya ko na lahat sa kaniya.
The whole ride was filled with laughter and music. I'm with Sam and Sky while the rest are divided into two groups to ride two different cars. We decided not to drive alone, that would be no fun.
Pagkarating namin sa raceway kung saan ginaganap ang Night Lights, bumungad sa amin ang napakaraming tao katulad ng inaasahan. As usual, I bought popcorn and soda. And just as expected, the two teased me if I'm going to watch a cinema.
